Not surprised it would happen considering his lack of inclusion in the 18, but the timing is odd unless they need the spot to bring someone off of the DL. Might be awkward for the two Gambian friends if one is waived so the other can take a spot on the roster. Anyway, Mansally is not a forward. He is comical when trying to play with his back to the goal and makes very unconvincing runs from there. As a wing, he's average. Average speed, average crosses, average sense of play. Perhaps I am being a little kind to him. He definitely doesn't have the skills to play in the narrow, technical "outside" midfield position that Heaps has been using (Nguyen, Feilhaber, Rowe, Guy, Cardenas) and he doesn't have the speed or 1v1 skills to be an effective shake-up wing when we need to open a defense by pressuring wide or winning the baseline. (Guy, Cardenas, Purdie, and Nyassi probably do it better). I've thought for a while that if he was to find a place on this squad it would be by studying to be a left back and pushing Tierney, but that would take time for him to become MLS-ready at that position, and I'm not sure he could successfully make the transition. So, Good Luck, Kenny. I hope you find a place where you can contribute.
He had a few showings last season where he displayed promise as an impact sub at forward but he would instantly regress in his next appearance. If he had half of Diego's soccer IQ, he could've challenged Runstrom's spot on the depth chart but he logged way too many minutes last year to not find the back of the net once.
I've had the same thought for a while too - Mansally was a decent defender from the midfield and was definitely faster than Tierney. I was wondering why nobody ever had the thought to teach him the LB position. I liked him too and hope he can catch on with another MLS team, or keep his career going somehow. Regarding the actual roster move, they get some allocation money for only having a 27-man roster, are the looking to clear space for *gasp* a summer transfer?
They get a small amount of allocation for keeping the roster at 28 or below (thirty is the max, but a team can agree to only carry 28 in return for the extra allocation money). They have two people on the DL that would need a roster spot when it's time to bring them off. However, of the two, I'd take Mansally over Boggs (no salary implications considered) and would have a debate between he and Nyassi, but would take Nyassi over Mansally because of the speed factor. I think it's as simple as this.
Best of luck Kenny. I was hopeful he and Nyassi were going to be the future of this team. But after some initial success as teenagers in MLS they both plateaued at an insufficient level.
I would think that just means that either Boggs or Nyassi are coming back healthy from the IR list, not that they're signing anybody. From the injury lists it looks like Nyassi will be back first which would be awkward if he essentially took Mansally's spot on the team.

He was exciting to watch when he was playing well. With his development, I can't help but remember the comment a few months ago that a player (I forget which one) made about how it's amazing to have Heaps as a coach because he shows young players what they should be doing instead of leaving them to fend for themselves like Nicol apparently did. I think Mansally and Nyassi (and Alston) could have been much much better with better development coaching. It's a shame.
Could be to open a spot for Kevin Garcia. He was trialing with the team a while back after finishing school, but I haven't heard anything since. We could use another defender, especially if he's versatile enough to play outside as well as in. With Lechner out and Alston often "questionable", we're forced into bad (Barnes outside) choices.
Very possible, Garcia played in a reserve match on April 9th. Not sure about the last one but if they saw enough of him and liked him chances are that is the next move. From what I can recall the Revs have never waived anyone recently and not had a signing a few days after
I doubt they would sign Kevin Garcia (a supplemental pick) to a senior roster spot (vacated by Mansally). I think Mansally was waived to make room for Nyassi to come off the DL soon. If they sign Garcia, it will involve movement at the low end of the roster.
Y'know, say what you want about his style of play, but he went out there any time he was asked and did all he could to put the ball in the net. It wasn't much, but the kid played his heart out. I enjoyed watching him (and Nyassi, and yes, I know that it's racist to keep bundling the two of them) in the same way I enjoy watching the Revs, in general. I know I'm going to be frustrated by the missed chances, but that just makes the rare instances of quality play all the sweeter. An obvious legend from the Shit Revs Era (2007-present)
To me, he never really showed the potential that Nyassi did. They may both end up with the same fate, but in the offseason, it sure sounded like Heaps had some ideas for Nyassi. The big problem for him, when he finally gets fit again, is that minutes are hard to come by. Presumably both Guy and forgotten man White, will return at some point.

I agree. It does seem that with Nicol, either you came up and had it, or you didn't. Those who had it succeeded and those who didn't were cut. Maybe some of the veterans helped out (Like Ralston yelling at Nyassi). There seemed to be very little emphasis on player development. That being said, imagine what Mansally or Nyassi could have become in a different system, like RSL? Mansally, however, is still really young. He still has plenty of time to figure out the game. He isn't a lost cause & I'm sure he will benefit from another system.
The Ralston remark seems appropriate. In fact, while following the reserve match on Twitter the other day, when I read that Mansally was in the match, I figured Stevie had a hand in bringing Kenny to Houston for trial. I forgot that the MLS reserve division schedule is based on a random number generator...
I vehemently disagree. Nicol was among the best in MLS at developing young players (that doesn't mean he was able to succeed with all of them). In fact, I think his reputation for drafting was overstated because his ability in development was underestimated. There is a long list of examples of players who flourished under his coaching, which only serves to understate the few who seemed to have potential, yet stagnated.
