Once bitten twice shy ? thats why Lyle Yorks is now Coopers agent. His dad apparently acted in good faith, took the league and FCD managements word which turned out to not be worth the paper it wasn't written on.

If I was KC's agent, I wouldn't negotiate on a down year. Especially with a kid who will at least get to where he was, which was one of MLS's best young talents.

Look at poor Taylor Twellman. EPL is throwing 2.5 mil his way, but the Kraft's say no dice. They have him locked into a long term contract at substantially lower $$'s. Twellman is reportedly hating life. But, at least he has a secure financial future, albeit at a moderate guarantee.

Since KC's long term objective seems to be 1st team EPL, I'd think he could set MLS on fire this year, and leave free and clear next year.

If'n it was paper, it must have been put down in pen, and if'n it was their word, wouldn't be any paper.

I also wonder if the assumption that we all have that he definitely wants back into England ASAP is playing into this.

Fishy makes the big bucks in part because he has played in MLS through his best years. Twellman in New England got a 300k-400k contract because NE expects to have him through the remainder of his most productive years.

With Cooper, FCD may just want to sell him at the optimal moment during this 2+2 contract, knowing that he's leaving one way or another as soon as he can. The middling reputation of MLS (plus his own personal work ethic) will force Kenny to keep giving it his all until he does move on.

All that said, bad on KC Sr for not getting something in writing (if that's how it went down), and worse on the FO for playing hardball with a hometown kid giving them the hometown discount. Not a good strategy for building a long-term reputation. See also Revolution, New England, next contract negotiation with any rising American star.

in the business world Kenny could sue Marshall for just that reason.

Actually, the Hunt offspring could off-load the franchise to more equitable, passionate concerns that justify more advertising revenue, as well as integral, passionate fans.

I suggest writing emails to the FO asking them to do the write thing.

2008 would be the first of the 2 options years if he signed a standard 2+2 to begin with in 2006. 2008 will be KCJ's 3rd season in hoops.

Did he not sign a standard 2+2 or was it renegotiated already?

Who's here? An entity that can easily by KC's contract?

Give to Rome's what is Rome's. If HSG puts money as their core passion, so be it. HSG opted to swing value their way instead of balancing the equation by compensating performance as any mutual contract calls for.

Of course this justifies KC's group to look elsewhere for equitable value exchange.

    CAP space!?!

You and I both know that I don't say things like that unless someone told me something. You can say whatever you like to make it look like I don't know what I am talking about but I stand by my info.

Lighten up Francis... just so you know I am quoting "Stripes", since you don't seem to be getting anything else that was being said.

I was merely commmenting that E66 was finally responding to the thread and many people were waiting to hear from him.

Wow. That would certainly explain Cooper's unhappiness.

    2+3?

Wow. I hope he's got some significant performance-based incentives.

Kenny needs to just concentrate on meeting his performance incentives and getting USMNT Caps. If he keeps doing that, Europe will come calling and he won't have to worry about it.

With that kind of contract, I can see why re-negotiating has been put on the back-burner.

This team is still short one or two big time players, and getting them is way more important than making a guy you still own for 3 more years happy.

I would very much like to see KCJ and Oduro get lots of time together.

They could play this to fire up the crowds:
