http://www.glenndavissoccer.com/ I was shocked to read this. Anyone have any insight into where this is coming from? 5. Ken Cooper Jr. is clearly unhappy in Dallas and is looking to move. The Dynamo have been rumored to be checking on his status which doesn’t surprise me based on Joseoph Ngwenya situation which remains up in the air. The Dynamo need to sign a striker.
'Clearly', huh? This smacks of Ives' Szetla to Metro level journalism. I think I'm going to need more confirmation on this one.
Yeah, I don't get where "clearly unhappy" is coming from. I could understand him saying he wanted to go back to Europe, but that's different from being unhappy at FCD and wanting to go elsewhere in MLS.
I don't believe Davis was saying he's "clearly unhappy" in the sense that it should be clear to all of us. I think he's trying to say that from what he's heard from his sources Cooper is clearly unhappy. That's the way I read it.
As long as Carlos Ruiz is on the team and Cooper is forced to play wide or more withdrawn to accomodate him, I suspect Cooper will be unhappy. Call it a hunch. Now, would sending him to a team with Brian Ching and Nate Jaqua make a lot of sense given that? No. But Cooper is bound to feel his development is being hindered when he is forced to play a position that isn't the most optimal for him, especially when he's being moved in favor of a player who is notoriously selfish and not team-first.
OK, I could buy into this, except every indication is Ruiz is being traded away, so Cooper appears to be slotted to be their starting Target forward.
Doesn't make sense with all the noise coming out of FCD that Ruiz is being shopped around. Not to mention the clear indications that it was Cooper himself who prefered to play wider and rely on his dribble, not something that Morrow was asking him to do. I dont' have the time to research the quotes, but several times Morrow indicated that he wanted Cooper to be more direct in his play.
Same on our end, too. Wow. I thought that he would only leave FCD to go to Europe (IIRC, he's been linked to ManU, right?). Gotta agree with you guys in that, while he is a quality striker, I don't think he is what we would need to replace Ngwenya. Wonder if Goff or Ives has any insight into this....
I don't know about those guys, but I'm waiting to hear from Buzz at 3rd Degree. As for being tied to ManU...that's because he was with them before he came to MLS and he trained with them this off season. I don't think they have any interest in bringing him back, to be honest, not in the short term anyway.
Assuming Ruiz is traded and KC too, how is ya'lls ST depth on the bench/reserves? Anything promising or would you probably have to go shopping yourselves?
I cannot see FCD trading both KCJ and Ruiz. IMO it is one or the other and up until this moment, every indication has been Ruiz. That is what makes this news so shocking.
I really hate this kind of negative on Ruiz just because we are talking about Cooper. Everything Ruiz has done on this team has shown him to be an effective and dangerous scorer. Even when he was obviously sidetracked on other issues, he turned it around and got back to work. Even when he had long dry spells, he turns around and shows a work ethic that leads to goals like the one we had against Chicago last year that tied the game. Ruiz and Cooper would have been a nice combo but unfortunately Cooper had his leg broken. I still think they could be effective, although what appears to me to be Cooper's lack of speed makes me think both would probably be the most effective if they were on different teams. I personally would like to keep both and use the one who isn't broken by the end of the season. I would much prefer we get the season started and see how they work together before I traded one.
after further thought-sounds fishy to me (no pun intended)-why would Kenny leave unless things were really bad (but then more sources would have reported it)-isn't he a Jesuit grad?
Abe Thompson is not known to be fleet of foot but is smart and has a nose for the goal. perfect as a fill-in for an injury or to surprise a defender who gets lulled into a false sense of security by "Lightnin's" (lack of) pace. Dominic Oduro is kind of the opposite. Extremely fast, but doesn't finish very well and also has a tendency to miss open passing opportunities, though when he does score it's a thing of beauty. Great late-game sub versus tired defenders. I'd say both are MLS quality, and Oduro still has a chance to develop into something truly special, but right now both are bench/USOC players. After that, frankly I'm stumped without checking the full roster.
This drives me a bit nuts too. The fast guy is great as a late game sub vs. tired defenders, but not good early to tire out the same defenders? Id rather Oduro go in and tire out the defenders and then let Llightnin close the deal.
I'm sure this is just wild speculation but if its true for any reason and Houston ends up getting Kenny, the true evil of Houston will finally be revealed & I will be absolutely livid.
I will be interested to read e66's response to this allegation. I do think that Coop has been hoodwinked by FCD in the past, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him looking elsewhere.
The rumor may have weight. Houston is looking for a striker. Joseph Ngwenya has apparently been signed by an Austrian club.
I too am interested in england66's ability to shed light on this allegation but how exactly has Kenny been "hoodwinked?" He had an allstar season with Carlos in 2006. In 2007 he was scoring goals again and then got injured for most of the season. So what has Dallas done to "piss him off".
I'd always thought the belief was that by waiting until the defenders were already tired, they would play sloppily enough that the lack of finishing would be less of an issue. I can easily see how your take makes sense, though. Ultimately, both are players with at least one glaring weakness, and their strengths are insufficient compared to the starters. (Do I win the obvious award now?)
