That's the only way he'd be going to Qatar.

Disagree. He's our backup D-mid right now, playing in MLS. If nothing changes with other players (and we qualify), he's going to Qatar.

Not too late for someone to pip him to that spot (Busio, Cappis, TBD) but yea, he's on the plane right now. I think his ability to play multiple positions also gives him a very good inside track.

Has been traded to LAFC. He's a bit upset that his Euro options weren't considered:

The American concept of player control runs face-first into the global soccer world again.

Hopefully Acosta gets the move he wants. This shit stinks.

Acosta is paid $1.1M. That's ridiculously high. Goof luck to find anyone abroad who would pay that unless he leaves for free, and Colorado preffered to get some mone for him. This all is just moaning.

For a 26-year-old with 45 national team caps and 200 MLS appearances, it really isn't.

Unless you watch him playing. Who exactly would pay $1.1M to him? Some upper Champioship team? But what does he bring that they don't have? He is exactly a player that England produces in abundance.

Very unprofessional reaction and highly disrespectful to an organization who believed in him while he rebuilt his career.

If there was an offer from Europe that made more sense for the team than the trade from LAFC, then you can be sure they would have taken it.

And the fact that there wasn’t an offer of that type says something, but his social media reaction says even more.

$1.5m of Garber Bucks for Acosta is an excellent deal. He can't have been getting proposals for much more, if at all, from abroad. And that $ would have been less usable. Would have just axed modest deals to randos in the C'Ship. I can't blame Colorado.

Of course players have to believe in themselves and think they could play in a top 5 league/UCL. But in reality, Kellyn couldn't. He's shown how shoddy he is on the ball w/ the NT & he's 26. They didn't impede much, other than sheer curiosity.

Athletic so paid, but the gist of Stejskal's reporting:
    • Source says Rapids haven't received a transfer offer from a European club for Acosta since 2019
    • Rapids say no offer on the table at time trade was agreed, but three hours later a club emailed proposing a free 1-year loan with an option to buy.
    • $150k of extra GAM likely. $250k only if LAFC wins a trophy.
    • Rapids keep a sell-on for foreign transfers and MLS trades
In any case, $1.25 million in fake money with potential for another $250k is more than the Rapids could use on their roster than if they sold Acosta outside the league. Disappointing for the player of course but another head scratcher from LAFC. You're basically bidding against yourself at the point.

    Unfortunately, "interest" =/= "concrete offer."

Sure some teams maybe contacted him or his agent, but Colorado took the guaranteed fake cash from LAFC rather than negotiations. They likely wouldn't have gotten as much GAM from an international sale anyway. Sucks for Kellyn.
