Notice the thing about hoping for an appearance for the US vs Japan?
So much for those rumors that said he didn't want to play for the nats again.

Does Keller now have an EU passport since he's been over there for like 11 years(or close)?

Don't think so, between National team Caps and playing enough club games I think he can get a work permit w/o much problem.

Yeah but that would mean that he counts as a non- EU player, and teams can only play so many of those at one time.

It differs between countries. In the UK, you have to have lived here (and worked) for 5 years before you're eligible for a "green card" (I think it's called becoming a "landed resident.") and a UK passport. On the other hand, it only takes 3 years to get a Belgian passport, which is one reason ManU farms so many of their young kids out to Royal Antwerp. Sorry I don't have a link for this last bit of info, but I remember reading about this particular case with ManU somewhere.

I recall a couple of years ago Yorke was going to get a UK passport. According to what I read, the only benefit of it would be getting through customs (i.e., the faster EU passport line rather than the slower non-EU passport line) during his globetrotting ManU days. He'd still be subject to the same restrictions re: work permits, etc. Naturally he was cap tied to T&T and it wouldn't make him eligible for any other national team.

another reason being that he is originaly from Washington State,

"Keller also added that he expects to appear in the national team's friendly against Japan on March 29 in Seattle. A Washington native, Keller attended the University of Portland"

    Good for Kasey

I'm glad to see him be appropriately appreciated by Tottenham.

Some English posters here have posted that England did away with limits. WPs are the limiting factor. FWIW.

You could post a question on the EPL board to be sure.

This is crazy. Everyone knows he'll never play at Spurs. Can't he find a nice Turkish club?

F- that was a good one. In all seriousness, hardly any posters thought (at the time) Keller had made the right move signing with Spurs- most thinking he either waited too long (I believe he signed in Sept or late summer)....or that he should 've wait longer (until a Premiership team lost their 1st stringer due to injury, that way he could get some 1st team action immediately). Hardly anyone saw being signed as the #2 behind a popular and highly-rated starter as the right move. (I think most here were claiming, "well, he did it for his family)...

Kasey definently has proved most (here) wrong..

Yeah. It made me laugh too, and I wasn't being smug, either. I was a dubious as many of KK signing on behind Sullivan. I thought KK could win the battle long term, but I never anticipated Sulli dropping in form quite so quickly. I'm still thinking that KK slipped a little something in the lad's haggis.

KK also was the beneficiary of Sullivan being injured for the first 3 (4?) months of this season. Not to say that KK would not have won out as the first choice anyway, but it did mean that there were no weekly/bi-weekly discussions or worries about who was going to (or should) get the start.

Actually, I remember the argument among many US fans was that it wasn't the right time to make that move with the World Cup arising. The argument was "Well Brad is starting in the premiership, Keller probably will not". My point in all of that was that it was a double edged sword. Great for his club career, maybe not so great for his immediate national team career. In the end it worked out for both parties although IMO, Keller was a bit of a sniveling jerk in the road.

These days the bigger question is - which game is bigger? Club or National Team?

I had the good fortune of catching the Spurs - Fulham match live at White Hart Lane on Monday. When Keller made a good play some of the fans would cheer "USA USA..."

If I really have to choose, I'll go for Club. There are 38 meaningful EPL (for example) games per year. How many meaningful USMNT games do you get per year? This is even before I worry about who puts food on the table.

Don't corner kicks usually involve having other people inside the penalty area? :)
