Keller starts and Gladbach are already up 1-0, early in the first half.

    5-1 now,
    Francoaldo Franca (69).

I wonder when the last time was that Keller allowed 5 goals in a game(I think it was 4 against Man U for Southampton earlier this year)

I know Real Madrid hit Rayo up for five in his La Liga days.

    For old times sake...

Friedel would've had a shut out, not to mention a brace of his own.

Actually, the last time Keller gave up five in a game was at the tail-end of his second season for Spurs, when Blackburn thrashed them 5-1. As for today's nightmare, here are the form marks from Seitenwahl:

    Borussia Mönchengladbach player rating:

    Keller (7 of 10) / Korzynietz (3 of 10) / van Kerckhoven (6 of 10) / Strasser (3 of 10) / Jansen (4 of 10) / Broich (4 of 10) / Kluge (5 of 10) / Thijs (4 of 10) / Heinz (3 of 10) / van Hout (3 of 10) / Neuville (5 of 10)

Used Subs: Ziege (3 of 10) / Ulich, Daems (came on too late to get assessed)

    Match standard: 7 of 10.

In keeping with the thread, did Friedel get any of the five? :)

KK gets lit up for five, and still pulls a 7? Remarkable...

I was thinking the same thing - BM must have really sucked rocks on the day.

Didn't Keller get tattooed for like 6 or 7 in a drubbing to Arsenal when he was with Leicester? I remember that at the time many called that his "try-out" with Arsenal who was looking for a long-term replacement for Seaman.

Leicester was relegated and Keller was on his way to Madrid.

And either way... they still get 0 points and it wouldn't have made a difference in the final table. as Gladbach finish 15th in the table - avoiding relegation in the end by a single point.

It's too bad Kasey has never played for a club team that actually performed well. Has he been on any team (I guess Leicester that 1 year) that did anything to amount to any glory.

It's amazing but his club resume is much less impressive than Friedel or even Howard.

Exactly, thats why Paul Robinson is so good. When he played for Leeds they were absolute crap!

The game you're thinking of was against Manchester United at Old Trafford in January of the year United won the trebble. Keller gave up 6 in a 6-2 loss, though he could only really be faulted on one of those (when he slipped while trying to cut the angle on a United forward, making for an easy tap-in).

Yes, he was off to Rayo Vallecano the next season, but Leicester had finished mid-table in Keller's final season there; they weren't relegated until the following year.

We're both right -- they lost both 6-2 to Man United and again 5-0 to Arsenal at Highbury that same season. LCFC was relegated the following year but KK was in Spain.

I recall I had been planning on seeing that match live and so it sticks in my memory.

Many thanks for the link! I remembered the 6-2 drubbing because the highlights were televised here, but somehow missed the February 20th demolition by the Gunners. Anyway, I looked up the write-ups of the Arsenal match on Lexis-Nexis, and I gather there was very little Keller could've done on that day; the finishing was simply too good. Here are the match stats and player ratings courtesy of the February 21st issue of the Sunday Mirror:

    MATCH STATS

    12 Fouls committed 11

    0 yellow cards 0

    0 red cards 0

    6 Offside 2

    3 Corners 4

    8 Shots on target 2

    8 Shots off target 4

    STAR MAN:

    Dennis Bergkamp

    Overshadowed Anelka's hat-trick with a breathtaking display.

    ARSENAL.- Seaman 7; Dixon 7, Vieira 8, Adams 7, Vivas 7, Parlour 8, Grimandi 7, Garde 7, Anelka 8 (Diawara 7), BERGKAMP 9, Overmars (Kanu 7).

    LEICESTER.- Keller 7; Sinclair 6, Izzet 6, Lennon 5, Guppy 5, Gunnlaugsson 6, Savage 5, Kaamark 6 (Impey 6), Elliott 6, Ullathorne 5, Zagorakis 5 (Walsh 6).
