I've been off the boards for awhile so please forgive me if this has been discussed. Given that Keller got the call for the Venezuela game, does that mean that he and Arena have patched things up? Is he still in the picture for the USMNT?

I don't think there was ever really a problem. Did Keller want to play in the world cup? Yes, Absolutely, any competitor would feel the same way.

The only "riff" was that Keller was a little upset that he was promised a game and didn't get a game. It happens. Coach's change their minds.

Friedel's form has been spectacular. Even Kasey has to realize that. I am sure he would rather be the #1 but I think he also probably realizes that the coach gets to make the calls.

I kind of feel for Keller. If he was on just about any other National team he would be the hands down number 1 but he just happens to be stuck behind possibly the hottest goalie in the world right now. I thought it was really nice to see him in the nets against Venezuela. Then again, name me another country in the world with a better number 2 than Kasey. Thats a pretty awesome thing.

I like Kasey, but I'd have to go with Toldo (Italy) as the best #2 in the world. Casillas (Spain) isn't a bad #2 either.

Casillas has not been #2 since the World Cup. Maybe Canizares is not a bad #2.

I still think that Keller has the ability to make the save that wins the game for you. Friedel was brilliant in the World Cup but I still think that Kasey is just as good if not better.

    I agree.

  11. Not to cut Friedel but Kesey has been saving penalties all along. Brad had a great run of saving them in th Cup and recently has done a superb job of it to. But I would think Kasey has still saved more penalties. And dont forget some of the games Kasey was in the nets for.... Theyre about even in my eyes.

Yeah, either way, it's a pretty good duo to have in your arsenal.

For now, Keller’s future lies with his club team, Tottenham Hotspur, in England. The summer ahead for the National Team has the Confederations Cup and Gold Cup in store for the U.S. Keller has spoken to Arena this week about what his role with the team will be in the near future, and from that, Keller is evaluating everything on a game-by-game basis.

“I have decided to take each game as it comes, and I will read the situation and go from there. No longer am I looking towards the future. I am just looking at each game and seeing if it is something I want to be involved in. This game in Seattle gives me an opportunity to play at home so I am going to see how things go from there.”

What I disagree with is the use of the present tense in this post.

I think the important point is that Friedel and Keller are our best keepers and barring injury are likely to be our best come the next World Cup. It is important that they both be on good terms with the team and the coach. I see Keller's call up for the Venezuela game as an olive branch from Arena. Keller's acceptance of the call suggests he was receptive. I hope I am correct on both counts, and that all parties make an effort to get along.

Keller and Friedel play in the same league. For teams of about the same strength. Most EPL fans would laugh if you said you thought Keller was better.Friedel was voted the top keeper in EPL in a English Skysports poll ,even though he doesn't play for a biggie like ManU or Arse. Keller was voted like 8th or something.
Don't get me wrong, I think Keller is a good keeper, glad he plays for the US. But you would have to hunt like a bloodhound to find someone who watches them both play pick Keller over Friedel today.

What about that great punch pass in front of the goal that Friedel made to Blanco?

That's what I'M talking about... like he's never heard of turning a shot around the post or over the bar.

Although it must have been like psychological warfare: Brad keeps giving them chances and they can't put one away.

Since that day Mexico still can't get an erection.

Friedel is the hottest GK in EPL this season, so his current form is better. Rich Gannon is the NFL current MVP and the best QB. However, is Rich Gannon better than Brett Favre in term of whole career?

Keller was better 2 years ago or 4 years ago (more wins and better goal-against and more spectacular saves). One year ago this time, they were about equal, according to Bruce and just about every expert. A year from now, who knows?? Just be glad we have two talented and experienced GKs, with more young talents like Howard are coming up.

Interesting, haven't had one of these in a while.

I don't buy PPV Ultimate Fighting shows.I don't need to as long as there's a Keller fan/Friedel fan smackdown goin'on.
