I received a pre-season ticket purchase survey form at the conclusion of my adult soccer league game Sunday. It seems they are passing them out to everyone who plays in one of the various leagues throughout Tulsa area-

The form asks how many season tickets you would purchase, how you would pay for them, and your personal info. The form puts the cost at $300 for 18 home games.

The bad thing is that the form requires each person to burn a stamp. No big deal to me, but for someone less gung-ho, might prevent them from doing the survey-

By the way, here's the email, phone and address of the people running it.

Great. Thanks for the info. I'm in Chicago the next couple of weeks (wanted to go to Naperville for one of the last 2 Fire games-- but that's another story)... will email/call when I get back to OKC.

I try to keep up with the Tulsa buzz by buying the occasional Tulsa World (newstand next door to where I work) and listening to a couple of Tulsa radio stations...

So, whaddya think? Does Tulsa still have the soccer fans they did before? Are those soccer fans skeptical about a new team?

Any clues as to whether Tulsans would vote $$$ on a bond issue that includes a "soccer stadium"?

    BTW, welcome to bigsoccer...

    Great news for Tulsa!

I use to drive to Tulsa whenever the Roughnecks of the old NASL played.

I would definitely buy a couple of season tickets at $300 each.

I'll write and request a survey or ask that they e-mail me one.

I know we have had fun on this forum with the "Great Soccer Race" between Oklahoma City and Tulsa; however, I'm going to support MLS soccer if and when it comes to the state of Oklahoma.

If we had a team in Miami, Oklahoma (pronounced mI-'a-mA) it's going to get my support.

I dunno. I mean, they're 37 cents. That's a bit more than .1% of the cost of the season tickets these people are promising to buy.

Honestly, I have just about given up on this city. I've lived here all my life and have witnessed a city go from being willing to step it up and take a chance to a bunch of tightwad complainers who will vote down anything that doesn't fix our streets. I used to be one of those arrogant Tulsans who thought OKC was a dirty cow-town with no soul. Well, I give it up to them, they have passed us and left us in their wake and I will gladly give them the title as the premiere city in OK for entertainment and such.

I would love to have soccer back here as would many of my friends who all went to Roughneck games as kids and still play today, but I am not so sure I am ready for the depressed feeling I would get when I walk in to a half full stadium by year 2.

I don;t think Tulsans would pay for a stadium, it will have to be through provate or corporate funds. We can't even get an arena to replace the 40 year old convention center downtown.

If OKC gets a franchise, I'll jump in a car with a bunch of friends and go to several games as season-

Here is a sample of yesterday's call the editor-

    Tulsans not fond of soccer
It appears that Mayor LaFortune doesn't know how to unify the city. As I recall, no one asked for a soccer stadium at the Vision Summit. City Hall suffers from an elitist mentality. The majority of Tulsans do not play soccer and even fewer watch it.

    No money for soccer study
The city doesn't have $100,000 for a feasibility study on a soccer stadium. If it does, then take some of those city employees off the mandatory furloughs. (Editor's note: The money was in a fund that could not legally be used for salaries.)

It's not the cost of the stamp that's the problem. It the fact that a stamp is necessary. If it was a "business reply envelope" where the recipient pays postage, they would have a much higher response rate.

Thats exactly how I feel, the-boulder. It's even more frustrating being out in the suburbs where you don't have a say on anything.

I made a conscious decision to stop reading "Call the Editor" in general...

Got tired of the chorus of naysayers and religious nuts quoting Leviticus (one quote was used to somehow justify keeping tattoos illegal)...

Hoping enough people who are sick of these "squeeky wheels" to finally get something to pass...

The type of person who balks at spending 37 cents to support MLS in their city is NOT the type of person who would drop $300 on season tickets.

This seems pretty obvious to me, maybe I don't understand what you're saying.

How 'bout this (above) as a call to the editor (hint, hint). I'm sure there are lots of Tulsans who feel the same: maybe even more of them than the tax-a-phobic jerks that dominate that column.

No, the potential season ticket purchaser may simply be too busy or just not be the type to keep from slapping a stamp on a questionaire.

That flier could get lost in the shuffle with all the junk mail on the desk.

Superdave, it's called a "friction factor". Anything that makes participating in a survey even marginally harder has reprucussions on the entire outcome. That's why most marketing surveys are either done over the phone or, if by mail, with a postage pre-paid envelope.

These type of friction factors are the bane of a marketers existence.
