Due to various moves, poor satelitte and worse cable, i have had the hardest time keeping up with mls this season---could someone run down the keeper situation for all the teams, who is starting, who isnt, and why, injuries, those who suck, etc.

    thank you

No offense, but you could start on mlsnet.com. Go to statistics, then choose either league statistics or team statistics.

no offense taken, however, iposted on here becuase i know there are fans (or I assume there are) that keep track of these things and have a better insight then a stat sheet, that type of fan opinon and insight is why i love big soccer....but maybe ego has taken over, things dont seem as fun as they used to be

    I'll bite.

The revolution began the season with Juegen Sommer as the keeper, then went to Adin Brown, and then back to Sommer and now back to Brown. Up until Brown's latest run of games their performances weren't anything to spectacular, and were made worse by the fact that NE's defense was like a leaky faucet.
In the last 4 or 5 games Brown has been starting and being playing very well. He's only given up 2 goals in his last 4 games (I think).

lets just say that Sommer wont be contending for a #1 spot on the Revs anymore.

I'll do the East now and post something on the West teams later tonight. I have to go take a drug test for my new job at Best Buy.

Metrostars: Starting keeper is Tim Howard. Hasn't missed a single minute of league play. The 2001 Goalkeeper of the year has had another impressive season, always giving his team a chance to win even with a porous defense in front of him. His backup is Paul Grafer, who, along with his famous pants, has yet to see MLS action this season.

Revs: As was mentioned earlier, Juergen Sommer has lost his starting spot, and is likely to lose his job altogether next season. He is backing up NE's current starter, Adin Brown. After a few rough appearances, Brown has been playing well for the Revs, and, for the first time in his short career, he's been injury free.

DC United: Former Miami Fusion goalkeeper Nick Rimando has been a stalwart in the goal for Ray Hudson's team. His acrobatic style, combined with his much improved positioning ability has made him one of the few bright spots on a dismal DC team. Behind him on the depth chart is a Keeper named McGinty who I think played with Hershey of the A-League last season. McGinty claimed before the draft that he would only play for DC. Rounding out their Keeper corps, is Mike Ammann. Last years starter at DC and former Metrostars hero, Ammann has been injured all season after surgury to his wrists or hands if I remember correctly. The reports out of DC camp seem to infer that he's not recovering well, and this could be his last year in the league, while it is almost definitely his last year with DCU.

Columbus: The Crew started out the season with last year's Goalkeeping hero Tom Presthus. After a rough opening to the season, Presthus was benched for a game or two in favor of rookie Jon Busch. That game or two turned into an extended vacation on the bench, as Busch helped turn the Crew from a playoff missing team, to an Eastern Conference leader.

Chicago Fire: Bob Bradley's team is still hitched to the horse that is Zach Thornton. The Beast has had another fine season between the pipes, although he hasn't been as dominant as he was at times in 2001. Behind Thornton is 2nd year player Henry Ring, who, if I'm not mistaken, has never seen an MLS minute of play.

That does it for the East. If I messed anything major (or miniscule for that matter) I'm sure it'll be corrected shortly. I'll take care of the West tonight.

For the Wiz, Tony Meola has played whenever available (gone for WC02 and at least one red card). Bo Oshoniyi was his backup - definitely a second choice.

No problem. I was too drunk last night though, so I'll try and get the West tonight after work.
