Wow...they actually approved the permit for the march, not just the rally? Mad props to the folks who made that happen...now it's up to the rest of us to do our part. I'm hoping to get at least ten part-timers to the rally and the game.
What are the logistics for the parking situation? It's seems like those of us that park in Lot 8 will have to march back to the rally site to get our cars. I guess we could play "How many Barra members can we fit into Srdan's van?"
Cross-posted from the main board... I owe Oscar a phone call on the planning side (thanks for getting back to me today, dude), but there's a new concern here. The Caps won their series tonight, and they will be playing the Penguins in the 2nd round. Rivalry, marquee matchup between the two biggest stars in hockey, yadda yadda yadda. Game 5 of that series is scheduled for Verizon Center on the evening of May 9th, and in terms of press coverage its going to dwarf everything on the DC sports landscape that day, including United's game and, I fear, our march. I'll be at the march either way, but we probably need to be realistic about the attention its going to get now.
Not to belittle a DC team and the great efforts the Caps diplayed in getting into the second round, but their record against the Penguins in the Playoffs has been less than sterling. May 9 is Game 5 in that series. Just saying. Putting off the March now with permits in hand could be difficult. We might get more press due to the Caps as interest will be focused downtown.
if I hear one more caps chant at a dc united match I am gg to go apeshit.....people can support the dc teams and all, but were there for dcu and dcu only (this has nothing to do with being a pens fan, just were there for DCU!) and I agree with Paul, having the march on may 9th now is pretty much pointless to get any local coverage as all the coverage will be on the pens caps game....we should look at another date to get more publicity, no matter what happens, unless we burn down RFK, i doubt our match will even have any coverage, and I bet about 12,000 people if that will be there at the match
yea... this sucks... we'll see what happends... ill be there either way. and i agree a caps chant on a bus or walkin out of RFKNorth is one thing but while at a match its not needed...some SE kept tryin to do that shit sunday.... u can go to the caps game for that
I don't think the Caps chants would have been attempted had it not been for the fact that the Caps were playing the Rangers. You know kinda showing a United front against all things NY.
Whatever the result is, can someone post the exact details of the march where it is easy for those of us that don't read every thread back-to-back can find it? Exact time, date, location, what to bring, what to do, what not to bring, and what not to do, etc. Either in the first post or in the title? Cheers.
Agreed, those chants in NY weren't as much of pro-Caps thing as it was a DC is better than NY thing. Sunday was a perfect storm for Anti-NY behavior. If we were in any other city, then we shouldn't do the Caps chants.
I know everything is still being planned out but are there any serious talks in getting shuttle buses/volunteer drivers to transport people from lot 8 to Lincoln Park during the tailgate? I just think that this will be a good option to maximize attendance for the march…
We're working on a shuttle. We're working on a lot of things. You guys sit tight until the details come our probably later today....
