    1-1 draw.

    KC gets luck

    Preki complains as always.
    Donovan assists again.

Not surprised, win at home, draw on the road.

MLS Shootout rocks, you get the inside scoop before overtime.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Hard-fought, but somewhat bizarre, 1-1 tie between SJ and KC.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Suffice it to say that we Earthquakes fans want Joe Cannon back! :(

Defense looked Great, Tony was awesome. Any other goalie and that would have been a goal on the final shot before the end of the second OT. Wow what a save.

How does SJ not play Arturo Alvarez? In the short time that kid was in he showed some tremendous skill on the ball. He made a couple of our guys look bad on the dribble. Given time he will be an outstanding player and will be on the National team in short order.

What happened on the Onstad goal? I heard he punched it into his own goal and there weren't any Wizard players in the area?

tahts pretty much exactly it. several of us felt that it was probably the ugliest play any of us had ever seen.

    and we're talking EVER.

off of a corner kick, onstad fists the ball straight up into the air, but it goes behind him, sort of leaning toward the gaol. i f i remember correctly, the ball bouced slightly off the post, and there was some confusion between onstad and dayak, and onstad hit the ball into the net.

there was not a KC palyer in teh pisture, as they had all run away after onstad punched the ball, probabaly figuring that it would go over the line.

I am still in disbelief. i remember the E-Quake fans saying how bad he is.....but DAMN!

It was worse then that Enkleman own-goal in the Premiership earlier this year. From what I saw on the wrap, the stats show complete domination by San Jose (ten shots to KC's three.) Meola saved your guy's butt, not to mention you got a little luck...

One thing that did bother me a little. Why Quill for Wolff? Why not Simutenkov instead? I would have much rather seen his speed of course it is such a small field that may have negated the speed aspect a little. I would have thought Quill for Diego at first.

I remember Onstad playing very well against the Wizards last year. Maybe its just all in his head right now.

I'm not betting on Wolff missing many more like that.

I didn't see the game, but it looked like the defensive midfield was non-existent. Comments?

    in an ideal world:

    diego = d-mid
    Armstrong/quill = left mid

    thats what we need.
    i think.

    but yeah....it was pretty bad.

This game would have been in the bag IF Wolff had anything on either of his two sitters that he wasted. He worked his butt off to make em happen but failed in the finishing department. I was glad to see him start though. I also wondered why we brought in Quill instead of Simu but then I remembered we have Danger Bob on the road with a tie in hand. Not a terrible choice seeing we haven't won a game in SJ in four years. No reason to start now.

You're being generous. The ball never hit anything but Onstad's hands. First he punched it straight up into the air, and then instead of simply catching it, it looked like he tried to push it over the bar with open hands like a set in volleyball and it just went right into the net.

BTW, I was really impressed with Garcia. I never knew he had so much speed, he was keeping up with Donovan on several sprints. And he's got great tactical awareness, just incredibly hard to break down. Fat Tony had a huge game, too. It you guys can put together any amount of offense (which didn't really happen tonight), you'll be contending for the supporters shield.

*Road ties and home wins in the West will win the division. Remember SJ does not play well in KC.
*KC is lucky to be in first on goals scored. The bright side is I'm not sure they can play too much worse. They are missing open nets and breakaways. They are also giving up hoards of chances to uncovered guys as if unsure where to be.
*Big howler by Onstad, I'd bet he's never done that in his whole career. It just looked like his punch up went straight up, a hair behind him, and to the right so when he reached back to get it the spin pushed the ball further away behind him, and arms don't bend that direction. Freak play. The pattern on that ball sometimes does not let you get a good read on the spin. I thought he played well enough the rest of the game. Watch him compensate and punch one straight down next week.
*I didn't notice anything remotely dangerous for KC on set pieces. One direct shot from close went slightly high and that was about it.
*The knock on Klein is the crossing ability, he lived down to it. Other than a few misses from the wing, he was largely cancelled.
*SOG 10-3 for SJ. That's getting outworked and outskilled. 3 SOG for 100 minutes will never get the job done in any league.
*Our team D is not good. Eighteen shots? 8 corners? Uncovered men all over? They were fortunate not to lose 3-1. If you give that quantity of chances, you have to finish well just to expect ties. You can only ask your keeper to do so much before he fails or breaks down.
*Wolff's misses - Did Brown have a seance and transfer his mis-itis to Wolff?!? I hope not.
*Tony erased 9 of 10 mistakes. That last one was as good as anyone's so far this year.
*All 3 guys that have scored on KC have done so unopposed. It happens, but at least attempt to cover the guys that are there for a few seconds before you have to react. Great passes on 2 and a great shot on the third didn't hurt.
*Mullen's goal came from a run of some 40 yds. Everyone saw him coming, how could you not? Only Garcia made any attempt. He came from the other side and still almost got there. Tony thought Garcia would make it so he anticipated to his left as Garcia would block a right post shot. Oops, #6 didn't make it, the shot went right, 1-1. 3 things: 1)Meola guessed. Mullen would have scored either way. Can't fault him really, but still. 2)Two defenders watched Mullen blaze by with no reaction. I'm not a coach, but in any team system an unknown cover is defaulted to someone. I would think the inside guy (Conrad?) had to take it once Guti was beaten for pace. Either way, it's two incredible errors to make, expecially up 1. 3)Great pass to Mullen's foot in space.
*SJ has 4 pts. with a #3 choice GK, no proven F, zero bench, Ecklund, or everyone they lost to Euro. Psst, they are still pretty good. No bench right now might tear them down late in the season. LA got every late goal possible last year against SJ. Guess who goes to SJ next... I'd love to see another 1-1 tie.
*I've seen every game so far. Of the rooks, Dunivant stands out in terms of obvious skill and seemingly always being in a good position - Garcia in '00.
*LA is essentially 1-2 after 3 games. :)
*I doubt Thornton will be as generous as Rimando and Onstad.

BLUE AND WHITE KC GUYS DOING IT WITH SMOKE AND MIRRORS, BUT STILL RULING THE PLANET!

Smoke and mirrors is right. Did Onstad play volleyball becuase that was a nice set. To bad no one was there to spike it.

D mid sucks, to many long balls last night. You can't play that way on that field. KZ must start.

Tony showed last night why he is still tops. The save in the 2nd OT was money.

Wolfie should be ashamed after his fluffer one on one with the keeper.

Wolf didn't look up once he got past the keeper. I don't think he saw that last defender.

Depending on what's wrong w/ Gomez, this might happen right away...

Anybody see the shot of KZ holding his shoulder? Is that still screwed up from when he injured it on the South Africa trip?

What did he do to it?

My pick for MOTM would of gone to Meola, hands down. Preki wasn't really pushing it out there, and he may be almost 40 but you've gotta try.

You stole a point, run with it;) Fat Tony saved your butts, no doubt. I don't have any ill will towards KC so i'll live with a draw but "old man" Onstad has to do better against the galaxatives or it's going to be a long night.

I didn't believe that goal until I saw it this morning on FSW's MLS Wrap show. As a fellow 'keeper, I feel really bad for Onstad, but I'll gladly take the point.

On the TV broadcast Ron Neuman said the SJ goal resulted from a bad kick by Tony. He got it high enough but not deep enough and they rammed it right back down his throat.

Midfield d was in fac piss poor or nonexistant in the first half. Second half they stepped it up a bit, but we were still letting them into the last 30 yards unoppossed 90% of the time.

Just pitiful. I wonder if this will make gansler rethink the whole tally d-mid/cisco a-mid lineup. I don't like it one bit.

I havent watched the whole game, but watched the MLS Wrap highlights of the game twice.

Both in the highlights, and on paper, it looks like our 3 man defense was run all over and Meola bailed us out time & time again.

I'm going to watch my tape tomorrow, but from I saw, there were too many SJ players moving free in the box poorly marked.
