I disagree, Morsink was a liability, he didn't have much of a touch at all, gave it away far too easily, and his one good play led to a poor cross.

I have noticed a trend in the last few games. Whenever we get up near the box, our guys just try to take the d one v one. No one is even looking for the passes or runs. We seem to be lacking in the quick and one-touch passes to break someone free. It is really annoying watching our guys get numbers on the offensive end only for them to hold up the ball while trying to dribble around defenders. We had a perfect example of his in the second half where Yura tried to beat a defender and the keeper (though he did get a shot in somehow-although well high) when EJ was standing wide open on the back post screaming for the ball. I don't think either NE player saw him standing there. It was an easy tap in. I know things get missed on the field, but this was merely a solitary example of things that happen way too much.

When has Yura ever passed up a chance to shoot? He gets the ball around the 18 you may as well stand back and watch, cause Yura doesn't pass it when he's around the 18, he's looking to shoot and that's it.

    Crouch, huh?

OK. Just so you know, there are professional volleyball teams all around Europe and South America that would like to find a 6'8" guy that can move and have timing like Crouch. Even in volleyball, it's rare. They have millions waiting for them, that's right, millions. If you have a doubt just Google the FIVB "World League" and take a look at the prize money for the Finals in Poland this year. That's just one tournament in the International side of the cash flow. Maybe 4 of those 16 teams have a guy like Crouch, Poland has 2 of them. Many guys are 6'8", but they don't move like him, or have the timing.

That is to say nothing of the soccer teams around the world with their ever-ready cash.

I have no doubt you are right in that Crouch would improve KC. But, it's a little like saying my days tend to be more enjoyable when they include a BJ.

    Duh. Hello. :D

As for KC's quality corners. I dunno where you get that. KC has mostly served up floating inaccurate junk from the arc. Noboady says get one a game from the corners, but you have to do better in 100+ chances. It's probably a trebel function of ineptitude from conception to delivery and finish.

This has become more prevalent as the season has progressed. Factually, it is Marinelli's style to draw or take on multiple guys and he is a big part of the machine. So some of this is natural to the system and should be expected. For the rest, connecting the dots might have this as a direct result of Marinelli getting so much praise in public. Deserved or not, it seems natural to think that other humans observing what gets praise would try to earn some themselves. One definition of poor coaching is that players do not know or adhear to their individual roles.

This was just one game, but I agree that what you observed was certainly among the several issues leading up to and also in NE.

Didn't Coach Onalfo give Yura some grief about laying off toward the end of a game about a month ago, when he felt he should have taken the shot? I'm pretty sure I heard something about that. I think the coaching staff have been encouraging him to go to goal.

And that has got to be frustrating for wide open teammates. I hate it enough when people do it in pickup games. I couldn't imagine how it would feel for the guys who are getting paid gobs of money and are supposed to be out there to win games but then get ignored and so people come on boards like this and rant about how certain players didn't score. Newsflash! You can't score on an open goal if you don't have the ball. Sorry, frustation rant.

Well I guess we as a collective can't make up our minds. We went from layoff specialists Josh & Eddie to putting in a guy that not only shoots but gets decent looks and goes for it; usually getting them on frame. I think BTW he won the last game for us by doing exactly that - in fact Eddie's 2nd goal was a result of that same approach (via Arnaud) in the same match.

    Sheesh.

It's one or the other folks. It's easy to sit in the stands or on TV and see the far post run, it's another to see it at game speed with two defenders on you and a boot that can get it done.

the bolded part is really the only issue i have with the post. he usually does NOT get them on frame, and when he does, it's mostly directly at the keeper. the exceptions are when he scores. it should be the other way around.

doesn't have to be one or the other. a good forward can shoot and pass. i also agree with the part where most of the shot are not on frame or they are right at the keeper. i guess the keeper IS considered to be a SOG though. maybe i'm just expecting too much from some of our guys.

Mostly. The UK host is actually funny though. They get some big UK sports names into their studio as well. Ricky Hatton (watch this guy fight if you haven't seen him), Greg Rusedski, and Ian Poulter so far.

they showed the game again uk talevision (channel 5).
what to say? it was a poor performance all round.
    the midfield (marinelli,harrington,victorine) was terrible.....
also eddie johnson didnt seem to be there with his mind.
he didnt make 1 good run....like he wasnt concentrating on the game (maybe he had transfer speculation on his head?).....
i dont know who was supposed to take care of Carlo Smith (man of the match) but he had way too much space to run riot.

it's Khano Smith :) but I think an announcer called him Carlo once.
    EJ was well marked.
    Second half was bad.
That said, it could have been a 1-1 game.
