Time for the new season. Croix Bethune is a good pickup, along with the young players out of college. Bia will be missed, along with Hutton, Prince and Pfeiffer. With Armas now head coach, things seem to be in a state of flux. Hopefully, Chawinga and Cooper will be ready to go early in the season.
Good to win the opener and especially good for Bethune and Sentnor (finally) to open their scoring account for the Current. Debinah had a very active game. I will chalk up the first half to jitters, early season rust and needing to jell new players. Current is still a very good, championship level team. No complaints with Armas in his first game in charge.
I was most worried about our midfield but Scott, Feist, Deb were respectable. Hope Scott is alright. The play in the 2nd half was fun, thought Hopkins brought good energy and I’d like to see more of Paul. Interested to see how it will take us to get healthy.
That was such a poorly played game by the Current. If they continue to play like that, this week will be rough with two more games on the road.
They were simply out coached. The decision, and it was clearly a coach's decision to not press Chicago was one of the dumbest coaching decissions I have ever witnessed. Nayher is known to have a weakness when under pressure and KC never even tried to put her under pressure making Chicago's play MUCH easier. I do not know if conditions forced the non-press but, even if it did, it was an extremely stupid decision. I was also very surprised by the lack of style of play changes at the half. Was the coaching staff drunk or high? They did nothing to make the match better but instead it seemed that they felt everything was going well so they change nothing except the one sub that was forced by time restrictions for one player.
The Seattle game takes on more importance given the loss on Sunday. Hopefully, the team will bounce back. At least the weather in Spokane will be better, mid 40s with 10-12 mph winds. Unfortunately, artifical turf again.
That was a complete disaster in the first half. I am questioning Armas’ preparation of this team during preseason, as it looks like all the new players have no idea what to do. Saturday could be another bloodbath with only 65 hours of rest. Ugh.
Three game losing streak after two defensive lapses and a fairly anemic attack. Lack of Chawinga and Bia amplifies a lack of speed on this year's team. Almost a must win on Saturday against Gotham.
Great win and team play by the Current today. Sentnor, Bethune, and Debinha had great games. Chawinga shows just how much energy she infuses into the team. Much needed boost of confidence for everyone, including the coaching staff. Good to get this win before the international break and the Teal Rising Cup.
Excellent win in the finals of the Teal Rising Cup. The Current's attack will be the best in the league if they keep this level of play up and everyone stays healthy. Big test on April 24 in Washington, DC.
did KC really keep active during the last few weeks? They just played their worst game ever! lol Chawinga needs to be all alone on top rather then an side winger, her one big chance got ruined cuz an teammate got in the way
Agree that this was one of the worst games ever with a full starting lineup. Never seen Lorena look so shaky. Very troublesome to continue to look so out of sorts. First touch and passing accuracy has dropped significantly from last year. Has a team ever won all home games and lost all road games in a year? LOL
I wasn’t expecting this season to be as dominant as last season. A new coach, injuries and losing 3 important starters takes time. However, returning players look unsure and lacking in confidence. These players are professionals so I don’t want to blame it all on coaching but the system isn’t bringing out the best in anyone. Some tough personnel changes need to happen or big scheme changes need to be implemented. Because our roster build offensively of acquiring small crafty offensive minded players who don’t want to go wide isn’t working. We have too many “artists” and no “warriors.” With our current personnel I think Hopkins and Feist need to start for some variety. I also don’t know how our defense looks so disjointed.
A road win! Team looked very sharp in the first half, but faded in the second half while playing too cautious (similar to many of last year’s games). Lorena deserved a shutout and was fired up to atone for her shaky outing last game. Unfortunately Rouse bumbled her clearance after Lorena’s amazing kick save. Bethune continues to shine, not quite sure what was better, her touch to pop the ball up or her volley into the net. Looking forward to the Mother’s Day home match.
Very nice win for the Current as they start to build momentum with multiple home games this month. Chawinga was stellar and too bad her header just missed which would have tied the league record for goals in a game at 4. But good for her to get the first hat trick in the Club’s history (if I heard that correctly on the radio on the way home). Friday will be fun if they keep playing like this.
Very comfortable win for the Current. Their third goal was one of the best passing sequences I have seen from the team in a while. Bethune seems very comfortable, and her play is free-flowing. Almost toying with her defender. The team played with a lot of fun.
Overall a very sloppy game from the Current. From Lo’s miss on the penalty to Ball’s clearance/turnover that led to the second goal, the ladies did not seem in sync for a lot of the game. Need to win on Sunday against a good Portland team to maintain momentum going into the break.
Important win for the Current, especially after needlessly conceding so early. All the goals were well taken. Chawinga and Bethune may be the 2 best players in the league, certainly the best one-two combination on any team. Defense still has its shaky moments but hopefully an easy win against Boston and then the summer break can help that line gel.
Just saw the highlights; nice to see KC fast breaking again! Dunno if anybody agrees with me but it just seemed Armas trying to install more broso like tactics into the squad(especially more deliberate passing) yet I feel woso is an different beast all together, maybe cuz there’s no way women can duplicate thr speed advantage that the men got, so the field is larger for them, which the more open space available, that’s why usually more direct attack works better for women. Maybe Armas finally learning this with his recent wins?
Yes, WoSo is a different game, but it is also relative. KC has Chawinga and Cooper, to very fast players, and both Sentnor and Bethune in support (also quick players). The difference this season from last, beyond Armas, is no Hutton and the addition of Bethune, who can be superb with ball control and passing. That latter part is what they didn't have last season, and getting Bethune to be able to work with the team would have taken time. The other part with KC is that Lorena has been iffy this season so far, and quite uncharacteristic for her. But KC with Lo, Bethune, Sentnor, Cooper, and Chawinga might have the third best attack in the league (IMO, beyond Washington and Portland, when everybody is healthy).
The Current also will get Debinha back sometime this summer (hopefully). Adding her to the attack gives the team so many scoring threats.
Very tense and physical game against Boston. They were impressive with their height and toughness. Current was obviously the better and more skilled team, but they were off in their passing. Good to just get the win, get to the break and get ready for the second half of the season.
My impression was that KC was "playing to win" and finally did while Boston was "playing not to lose" and they failed.
Agreed Boston was playing for a tie, but that is a smart strategy when you are on the road against a superior opponent. Almost pulled it off.
Sentnor sale wasn’t that surprising given her contract status and lack of production. Wish her the best at Angel City. Even if Hopkins takes over at CF, the Current need more depth there.
