Match is tonight, on ESPN+ 8:00 CT. Wonder if we'll see the regular starters start this game. Hutton, Izzy, Labonta, Cooper came in as subs in second half. Chawinga, Mace stayed on bench; Bia, Debinha, Dibernardo not on gameday roster. The starters against Palmeiras did great. Feist won't play as she gat a straight red card late in the game.
Great info thanks for posting. I really like this development: Kansas City already has a second team, and it is expected to play in the NWSL's forthcoming second division, which the league previously said would launch in 2026. The 2,000-seat stadium will be the reserve team's home.
Great start to the second half. Current has a legitimate back-up goalkeeper. Happy to see Debinha back on the field. Cooper was quiet until she wasn’t on her assist. Sentnor trade is just crazy good for the team.
Nice win with a very professional, steady game from the team, and a little Chawinga magic. This could have been a trap game with Orlando coming up and all the Sentnor hype, but this team seems very focused.
Too bad the league caused the cluster******** of a game yesterday in what should have been a showcase game for the women. I hope they learned a few lessons going forward. Despite that, the Current played well, with a lot of fire but unfortunately weren’t clinical enough in front of goal. Mace was outstanding filling in as a center back.
Another excellent road win. What team will beat this Current team? Haven’t checked but are they on pace to set a league record for points? One sore point last night was Gabby getting a red card and missing next week’s match. Glad to have her back on the field.
https://www.kansascity.com/sports/soccer/kc-current/article311888871.html Why the KC Current’s stellar (and historic) defense in 2025 takes a team effort Daniel Sperry August 28, 2025 Current also have a really good defense. They've got a great shot at beating some team defense records: goals allowed per game and total goals conceded even with a couple more games than the current NWSL record. The article talks about how committed the full team is to playing D especially the forwards (numbers are illustrative, but you see it visually, picture Chawinga running from a very forward position to tackle at the opposite end). I'd add that the MF are by nature two-way players (like La Bonta and Hutton among others). The backline all are capable especially Mace, who is a hard-nose, multi-positional player and Sharples incredibly underrated, also many others. Finally, I'll mention the 'keeper Lorena, frankly one of the best in the world.
Current with an away game at Pay Pal Park, where they hope to play again this season in the Championship game. Would like to get some good vibes playing there on Saturday night. Will Chawinga sit to rest her sore ankle?
Bay's had some good attendance this season, I hope their fans turn-up this weekend, it should be a good game.
Really impressive performance on Friday with a mix of new starters. Hopefully the team will stay sharp until the playoffs without any major injuries.
Confirmed. Sugita to AC for Vingola and $600. Apparently Thorns couldn't match the contract offer by AC. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/46438333/angel-city-trade-hina-portland-thorns-nwsl
Great that the Current set another set of league records yesterday. Clinical win against a good team needing a result. If this team wins the Championship it will likely be viewed as the greatest team in league history.
Playoff seeding is set. Chawinga should be ready to go on Sunday and hopefully Bia will also be 100% after her injury exit yesterday. 65 points in the regular season is incredible. Anything less than a championship will be a big disappointment.
This is very true, though my thinking is that anybody other than Louisville, and maybe Orlando (and Gotham if Ester does not return), could win it.
