Well, we will have to win this one by controlling their midfield. KZ will have to have a great game. No problem. I see the need to shuffle the lineup to get more speed and attack in the midfield to counter their strong mids. Meola Garcia - Thomas - Conrad - Gutierrez Arnaud - Zavagnin - Jewsbury - Klein Wolff - Taylor
Game on MetroSports as well. Watch party at Coach's? I'll be in town and would like to head out there. Otherwise I'll just watch at a friends house.
I agree, KZ needs to shut down Guevera this weekend, while also keeping an eye on Lisi. Our defense is also gonna have it's work cut out for themselves dealing with the Metros forwards.
The metros have looked pretty good so far this season. Speed in the mid would really counter some of the Metrosucks strength. And if there is a watch party at Coach's, I will be there.
I agree if we can cut off the supply from midfield to their forwards then we should be ok, but you could say that about every game. This will probably be close game and if I can get a few buddies to ride with me from Topeka then I'll be at Coach's as well. Now that we're all 21 it's easier to convince them to drive the hour to the bar to watch the games.
KC has a good shot at 3 points. Bob Bradley's has gone winless in an MLS high 5 games (0-1-4), has only been playing very well offensively through the Carribean kids, and has difficulty at home for some unknown reason. The bright spot for MET has been Johnny Walker in net. Without his stellar play, Metros would be on bottom of the East. In theory, KC's increased capacity for sound defense should be a step up from what MET has seen of late. Additionally, with Meola's better distribution post injury, another week to work in Vuk, and for Garcia to regain fitness; there's good reason to think KC can shut down the MET attack. The problem for KC would be their collective inability to get many shots dangerously on frame. I'm of the opinion that the second the shooting problem is solved, KC can explode for 5. Realisticly we have not seen that yet, but there is no boubt KC creates enough to have the foundation. Still, a GK has an above average night and KC will not score 2 in 180 minutes. As difficult as it is to SO a team at home, it makes a 1-1 tie a likely result. I'm an optomist. Someone will step up and hit early and the boobirds will be out in force. KC 3-0.
Yes. We can and should win this game. Also agree. He was phenomenal in the game on ESPN on Saturday. It could have been much worse for New York with him in the net. Only thing I really disagree with. Meola's distribution has been worse than lackluster. If he is not putting it out of bounds, he is giving it to the other team and usually their keeper. Maybe the shoulder is still messing with him, but his distribution is a nightmare. Yes. If we do this the Metrostars fans will be cursing the name Bradley.
I think Meola's kicking distribution is getting better, though. It was his kick that found Davy's head that then bounced off Jolley where Josh got to it and smashed it home. I'll go with Wizardcharter on this one, 0-3 Wizards. Big road win.
Yeah, you couldn't have asked for a better ball to Arnaud on that goal. I also think we can win this game, but I doubt we'll keep the Metros off the scoreboard. They've got too many weapons to be shutout of any game. We will have to absorb plenty of pressure against them and then exploit their defensive deficiencies.
I noticed Meola's kicking accuracy as well. He had a couple that were dead on to wingers on the sideline with good distance.
MetroStars should be feeling good come Sunday when we play them. They won their match with Boavista F.C. (8th in Portuguese Superliga) easily. Sorry there's no [R] in the thread for all you Boa fans. 3-1. MLS is at least showing some leagues they better bring their best effort if they're going to beat even our mid-table teams. Supposedly, their Brazilian midfielder, Gilberto was something to behold. Could cause possession problems with us if both he and Guevara see time together. I think the 3 goal offensive explosion some are expecting is a little much. I think Gansler will try to tally another road tie with us holding off quite a few shots. 1-1.
Yeh, but I have some family memorial day crap to deal with. On Friday and Sunday, where's the rest and recuperation in that? Some holiday weekend it will be as I try to keep two sides of my in-laws family from fighting each other. When I am the peacemaker you know things are bad!!
I feel that there is going to be a lot of problems for the Wizards. If anyone was watching the Dallas game last week, they would see that they had two easy breakaways on Meola. These defensive breakdowns can happen against Dallas, but against the Metrostars who have Fabian Taylor and Cornell Glenn up top, this could be a problem. My prediction, KC will lose 3-1.
Yes that was a problem in the first half with the breakaways, but I think everyone has said that those bascially came from the lack of coheison between the rest of the defense and Vuk, who had his first start. In the second half, when Thomas replaced Vuk, our defense shored up and we shut Dallas down.
You guys will have at least one fan in the stands on Sunday. I will be proudly wearing my Wizards scarf from MLS Cup when it was given to me by someone in the front office. And, my favorite MLS player (CK) is on your team, so I'll be watching closely. Here's to a great KC victory!
If you go to the MLS web site and click on the ad on the left side for the Direct Kick package, it will take you to the schedule. (http://www.mlsnet.com/MLS/schedule/tv.jsp) According to that, the game is not being shown on Direct Kick.
INTERNATIONAL ABSENCES: MET: Cornell Glen (Trinidad & Tobago; v Scotland, May 30); Michael Bradley (U.S. U-18 national team) Just saw this on the mlsnet game preview, that's good news for us. It should be easier to take some points from the metrostars with them missing their second leading goalscorer.
