I was just about to post this as well. You can see the 3rd goal at about 40 seconds. Pierre, I think was introduced to a very important lesson in Physics.FT | Un triplé de Lennart Mertens offre un point au SK Beveren ! 3️⃣🥵 #GNKSKB pic.twitter.com/1JgM5OQLo0— DAZN Belgique (@DAZN_BEFR) February 2, 2025
Pierre has a new teammate, 17 year old Emmanuel Sarfo from Anderlecht. He signed a 2.5 year contract. Why is this relevant? He plays right back. Where has Pierre been playing? Right and Left back.
0-0 vs Eupen. Word is that Genk is going to do what it needs to do to make sure Jong Genk are not relegated.
Interesting. I did not think it was allowed to do both on the same weekend. Maybe it is because he did not play that he could suit up for both teams.
Played 90 vs Lokeren-Temse, not great as they lost 1-2. Jong Genk has been the center of lots of discussion over the past week.
Kayden Pierre started and played the full 90 min in a 0-1 loss to La Louviere. He was actually very involved in the match.
Pierre ended up playing 24 matches for Jong Genk. Too bad the team is relegated to National. He has a contract through 2028, but with relegation who knows what the plan is for him.
Played all 90 min and was the highest rated defender. Jong Genk went down a man late in the 2nd half. Lost on a late goal to pick up where they left off last season with a loss.
Pierre played all 90 min in a 0-0 draw with RFC Seraing. His match rating was 7.2. He seems to be playing much better this season.
Long story, I will try and condense it. The JPL wanted to change their format and do away with the playoff and return to a more traditional format. Genk was one of the teams most opposed to this. As a way to win them over, the Belgian FA decided to change the CPL (2nd Division) and make a rule where there will always be four U23 teams in it. These teams can not be promoted, but if they are going to be relegated, the highest U23 team from the National Division (3rd Division) would be promoted. Two years ago, Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Standard de Leige and Genk all had U23 sides in the CPL. Standard's team was terrible and were relegated. In 2024-2025 only 3 U23 teams played in the CPL and Jong Genk was really bad and would have been relegated if the new rule was not passed. Jong Gent was promoted from the National Division (3rd Division) to the CPL, while Jong Genk was going to be relegated. But the new rule allowed them to stay in the CPL. Lots of discussion around this attempt to placate Genk, who then threw their vote to the yes of the JPL changes. After a few lawsuits, the CPL now has 17 teams for the year.
One more thing, the 4 JPL teams (Currently - Anderlecht, Club Brugge, Genk and Gent) pay the other CPL teams to have the U23 teams in the CPL. 1 million Euros each for a total of 4 million Euros divided between 13 teams (normally 12). That is why many of the CPL teams voted for the change as it would allow them to get extra cash each season.
He did. Five defensive contributions in a 2-1 win for Jong Genk. Granados also played the whole match.
Jong Genk met up with league leading Kortrijk and it did not go well. Pierre had the lowest rating of the defenders at 5.9 and the team lost at home 1-3. Pierre's stats: 3 clearances 1 tackle 2/5 of ground duels 2/3 of aerial duels 11 times lost possession 2 fouls 45 touches 69% passing accuracy
He's turning 23 in February and it doesn't look like he has much of a first team future. He needs to come back home
