Kasey Keller Will Not Like This If It Happens

Leave it to The Sun to start this rumor, but apparently Glenn Hoddle (with guidance from his spiritual advisor) is interested in signing David Seaman from Arsenal on a free transfer this summer. Now I for one think this is a load of crap, but if this were to go through then Hoddle is by far the worst manager in the world and Spurs should sack him immediately. Obviously he has no faith in Kasey Keller if he is going after Seaman. If I were Kasey I would remind Hoddle it was him who saved Spurs ass in a few matches this season with the depleted defense (Hoddle you should have shored up the defense instead going after offensive players). Does he remember that he has Sullivan and Hirschfeld on the bench to backup KK?

I know Seaman will not play as much at Arsenal next season if he stays, but he would not "defect" to White Hart Lane just to satisfy his need for first team football. This would be a bad move if it went through and I am certain Kasey would be pissed if he found himself riding the pine again after signing a new contract.

I think Sullivan is out on a free transfer. I doubt Seaman is much of a threat to Keller. Spurs needs to get some decent backs before Hoddle worries about making his goalkeeper compete.

    Is Sullivan still there?

That would be an odd choice for Spurs. Sullivan, Keller and Seaman, all on the same squad.

With the end of the season run spurs put on, I'm surprised we haven't heard more talk about bringing in a new keeper or two. The defense was weak to start with and banged up, but they gave up six in one game and four or five the next, right? Justified or not, that is usually enough to start rumors.
Actually bringing someone in is another matter, and Seaman makes no sense for spurs, who are looking at long term plans. He makes great sense for bc, a little less for mc, who just want to survive another year in the epl.

may be Hoddle wanted to have a psychological boost to sign Seaman from their crosstown rival.

What?? The Sun makes stuff up???

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=268618&cc=5901

The above speaks of a categorical denial by the Spurs of any interest in Seaman.

At the risk of sounding like a provincial American, there sure seems to be a lot of pure speculation that makes the papers in the UK as news.

    Wake up Hoddle!

To put Spurs defensive woes all on Keller is just crap. When you have Dean Richards and Ledley King, and Christian Ziege going down to injuries during the season common sense should tell you that during the winter transfer window you bring players to tighten up the back line. He can't possibly put all of the defensive mistakes on KK. Hoddle is obiviously just looking to save his own ass. I hope he gets sacked next season so Spurs can get a new manager who actually can see what is wrong.

Maybe Spurs need someone like Eddie Pope or Carlos Bocanegra to solidify their backline. I know these two players have aspirations to play aborad and it might be the perfect fit, in the perfect league.

If I were Keller, I'd say "bring it."

Seaman isn't worthy to carry Keller's jock to the laundry room. If Spurs want to go the way of Rayo Vallecano (krap on keller and then go in the toilet).... fine.

That guy wins the highest talent to luck ratio award of anyone I can think of... especially after the sieve of a defense that plays in front of him.

Amen to that. Just ask Romario.

Seaman sure didn't look too commanding waving at the ball as it sailed over his head and into the net against Brasil. Hoddle indeed "will have to beat off" as the article says if he puts Seaman back there.

Then again, maybe Keller would be better somewhere else ......

    1. Of course he'll be sacked.
    2. Do you also believe that Eva from page 3 is a college student majoring in astro-physics...
    3. Before ragging on Hod, who deserves what he gets usually _ let's assume he never said it was all kellers fault, or anything of the sort. Consider the source.
    4. That said, of course they're looking for a new keeper. What team on earth wouldn't be after the way they closed the season. Give up, look for a new keeper. It's a fact of life.
    5. No five, just liking the numbering thing.

Seaman is 58 years old, right? He would probably demand a higher wage than keller, would more than likely be the back up, and The Sun has a desired to run the North London rivalry to increase paper sales. Strangely enough, Spurs very quickly put up a denial of the interest in Seaman - almost 24 hours before they denied interest in Kanoute, which was a rumour that, I believe, came out first. Also, Seaman will have to work to be no. 1 at Spurs, but if he goes to BC, then he will be no. 1

Stating the obvious here, but Seaman, having been for so long Arsenal's 'keeper, is unlikely to go to Spurs - mainly because the rivlary between the Gunners and the Spurs is bitterly intense.

    My 2 cents' worth :)

Biting tongue... biting tongue.... biting tongue.... and........ whew!

Why do you folks always get your panties in a bunch over everything you hear or read?

I think the post with RedCherubini pretty much is most precise. Think logically about this.

Not to differ but ... I think those days are long gone where rivalary plays a part in these sort of things.

I wish I could say that were the case, but this particular rivalry is arguably the most intense in the Premiership.

To put it another way, even if Seaman were to accept signing with Spurs, the Spurs fans would never accept him as their 'keeper.

Kasey Keller might have statistically the worst record in the Premiership, but I have to say that the Spurs fans really like their American representative. To have the support and encouragement of the club fan base is pretty awesome for any player.

Well, I understand your point but if folks can go from Rangers to Celtic (or the other way like Mo Johnston) or move from Barca to Real like Figo, I dont really see moving from Arse to Spurs as that big of a deal.

I lost all belief in team loyalty when Clemens signed with the Yanks.

Beautiful, Mo Johnston has to be one of THE most controversial stories of all.

The situation there is a little different to Seaman's, however. Johnston, formerly a Celtic player (for those who do not know) was playing for Nantes in France and was looking to return to Scotland. Celtic were more than willing to have him back, and even held a press conference with the player to announce his arrival (if memory serves).

    However...

We are going back ten years, and Celtic lacked the cash to bring a player with international experience back to their club. This is where Rangers stepped in with an extraordinary amount, and Johnston's place in history for all the wrong reasons was assured. Celtic fans loathed him for betraying them, and Rangers fans detested him because he was a Catholic. Rivalry which goes back an age and beyond club histories.

Luis Figo is Portuguese. As an international, therefore, he is somewhat removed from Spanish domestic club rivalries. In addition, as in the case above, money was also the overriding factor.

As for Seaman, Arsenal can certainly afford to retain him if they so desire. So the question reduces back to rivalry as opposed to greenbacks.

Man City didn't have much of a problem taking Man Utd's former and long time keeper . Perhaps it's not as bitter a rivalry.
