He'll quadruple his (alleged) MLS salary as a back-up in Bundesliga or the Prem and/or a starter in Colaship.

rsl has seitz, who is their answer, and has major possibilites for the senior level too...post 2010 probably...

keller, some club somewhere will want a keeper....

i don't think mls is the place to spend your big bucks on a keeper, because you can get a decent keeper for far less, while the bucks can be better served on attack

Not sure exactly how many millions is takes to support a family, but at this point I'd think that Keller has more than enough of them to live reasonably comfortably even in San Francisco or NYC... not that either of those cities has a team.

Seriously, Kasey, it's time to come home and let us watch you in person.

...then again, if I owned a castle in Germany...

He could still do the business in Europe if he wanted to. Just depends on who needs a keeper at this point and what he'd want in terms of wages.

He might be signed by a big team in Germany...wouldn't surprise me.

He probably rents rather than owns in germany. And whatever city Borussia is in, it pales greatly in comparison to living in London and Madrid, his previous domiciles.

If I had a choice at his age I would try to get the gig in California (Galaxy or Chivas). He can afford it. And the weather is better in LA than SF. He's not going to get Waterreus's (sic?) position in NY.

He wants to be as close to Washington state as possible......RSL is just about the only current MLS team that I think he would consider....and IMO he would be a perfect fit for.

I'm sure those managers watched the world cup.

Keller played just fine in the World Cup.....about as well as Friedel in 2002 or his own performance in 1998 or Meola's in 1994....Our goalkeeping has been consistently excellent through all of our recent World Cups. The problem (in 1998 and 2006) was the performance of our field players. In 1994 and 2002 our field players stepped it up and played better than expected....in 1998 and 2006 they didn't.

i would hope, if i was paid millions of dollars to be a manager, that i would pay more attention to the work he did with his club team this past season than a 3 game span last summer.

He's rated as the 8th best GK in Bundesliga this year by the Kicker, only a smidgen behind Kahn.

As long as he is willing to accept short-term deals, he should have no difficulties finding an employer in Germany, Holland or Colaship.

The Premiership gigs may be a bit more difficult to find but Kasey is good enough to at least be a capable back-up there.

"Lie?" No. Get your head out of your ass.

I'll repeat.....our goalkeeping has been consistent throughout our modern World Cups. The field players and coaching decisions were the problem in 1998 and 2006. Why don't you go thorugh the many threads that have hashed this all out already? You might learn something.

And no, I've never been a goalkeeper.

I'm glad you're "sure the defense had something to do with that," when discussing the team's defensive issues prior to the World Cup. But if you "can't see where he wasn't responsible for some of those losses, some of which were blowouts" (I can remember one blowout, not some...vs Germany) it's because you have your head up your ass. Get your head out of your ass and maybe you'd see that he wasn't responsible for any of those losses (or any others I've ever seen)....there have been times he maybe could have done a little better I suppose, but we never lost any game just because of him. He's kept us in games more often than not.

And do you really think his only spectacular achievement has been that Brazil shutout? (must be because your head's still up your ass:rolleyes: ) He also had shut-out wins against Argentina both times he faced them. He has the most shut-outs of any US goalkeeper ever. He has the most wins of any US goalkeeper ever.....and before you say "Yeah, against CONCACAF!"....who were our other goalkeepers playing against? Friedel and Keller have faced roughly the same competition through the years, yet Keller has almost twice the number of wins and shut-outs in about the same number of caps.

If you'd like I can post a comparison of all of Keller's games vs all of Friedel's games to prove all of this to you.....but that would clutter up the thread and it's all already been posted elsewhere in the many threads discussing the issue. I'll do it again here if I must.

To answer your final question, as a member of the team he takes some responsibility, but certainly not all. And I'll repeat....we didn't lose any of those games because of him. We lost those games because our field players didn't play well.

You guys who criticize him expect Keller to be superman and to save everything....essentially to have a "Brazil" match every game.....well I got news for you, it doesn't work that way. Not even Friedel (who I think is great too) does that.

No, that's how you and the rest of his fanboys characterize him. The best ever. Never at fault. Lives in a castle.

During WC 1998 and 2006, Keller was never outstanding, but merely adequate. And his distribution has always been poor. He is not as good as Brad Friedel, and I think long term, Tim Howard will show he is a better keeper. Keller has had some excellent games for the US, just never during the WC. That's a shame.

Thanks for explaining that to him. I was confused by his World Cup answer also. I thought Keller did a good job at the cup. It was the non-existent Landon Donovan, the jogging around the field DaMarcus Beasley, and some extremely poor coaching. Those WIDE OPEN rockets sent shot in by Czech Repub were unstoppable. Where was the entire midfield and defense? One of those shots came flying by 1/2 the team turning to jog up the field and they looked as if they were shocked that he shot it. Uhhhhh Hello. Against Ghana Keller was named man of the match. And in the Bundesliga, Keller is right there with the tops as far as goals allowed. The problem is MGladbach SUCK. They don't score goals and there defense is leaky. Hmmm. That kinda sounds like our national team.
I'm not too sure where the criticizm of Keller comes from at all.

I'd say Keller and Friedel are indistinguishable from each other, aside from WC play. Both have their strengths and weaknesses and neither, again aside from WC play is clearly better than the other.

One great thing about Kicker ratings and the like is that they come from people who watched the game, watched replays, assigned blame for goals, etc. Perhaps you should dig up the ratings for those games. I don't know whether Keller was blamed for many of the goals or not, but I would not just assume one way or the other.

Most of us actually saw that game. The field players were letting Brazilian attackers beat them, and Keller was having to make great saves to preserve the shutout. The Brazilian forwards were talking about Keller after the game, not about our defenders. Our assessment of who gets credit for the shutout comes from facts, not prejudices.

Yugoslavia beat us 1-0 in 1998. They hardly wiped the floor with us.

Keller made a bad distribution that helped lead to the first Czech goal in 2006. I think everyone has recognized that on BigSoccer, even the Keller fans.

Perhaps you can tell us why you hold Keller responsible for the various 1998 goals. Do you remember any of them? You could start with the German goal that got between Mike Burns and the post he was supposed to be defending. Then you could talk about the breakaway by Iran when we had 2 (!) defenders and they tried to play an offside trap in front of the midfield stripe.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about?

He is the best ever (for the USMNT), he does live in a castle, and he certainly not at fault for our poor WC performances in 1998 or 2006.

By acknowledging those truths, that hardly qualifies as characterizing him as superman.
