http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/mai...04.xml&sSheet=/news/2004/07/04/ixnewstop.html Damn. Overshadowed in the news cycle.
Best Secretary of Defense ever. Every day, we get another reminder of why we're not part of the World Court.
I find it just as distressing that the US is continuing these interrogation techniques in Guantanamo without so much as a chirp from the American media. For some reason, I see Rumsfeld as Col. Jessup in this whole escapade, speaking lines like "You can't handle the truth" in regards to America's actions in Guantanamo and Abu-Gharib until someone gets him fired up enough to say "You're damn right I ordered the code red!!! (torture interrogation tactics)" I know he's far too self-controlled for that, but it sure would be fun to see. Too bad the Dems didn't wait another day for the announcement of Edwards, although I'm thinking this will run big if the documentation that Brig. Gen. Karpinski says exists comes to light.
Oh man, this is pure read meat. As a Dem, I'd love to see an endless loop of Rummy being thrown through a wild west bar window. However, my spidey sense is saying CYA on Karpinski's part. We shall all see soone enough where there's proof in thar pudding.
I love a good BushCo scandal as much as the next guy, but the smoking gun that Dems crave does not exist here. Americans are happy to allow for sleep deprivation, and you're not going to find anything that says Rumsfeld OK'd naked prisoner pyramids.
cmon guys you can do better than this ... "Asked whether the documents have been made public, Gen Karpinski replied "No" and went on to describe the methods approved in them as involving "dogs, food deprivation and sleep deprivation". The Pentagon has consistently denied that Mr Rumsfeld authorised the transfer of harsher techniques of interrogation and detention from Guantanamo Bay to Abu Ghraib, where all prisoners are supposed to be protected by the Geneva Conventions. Replying to Gen Karpinski's allegations, a spokesman for the Pentagon told The Telegraph: "Mr Rumsfeld did not approve any interrogation procedures in Iraq. The Secretary of Defence was not in the approval chain for interrogation procedures, which would have remained within the purview of Central Command, headed by Gen John Abizaid." " whether it got to Rumsfeld or stayed at Abizaid - clearly concern about getting information balanced against human rights was at the highest levels. But seriously - dogs, food and sleep are well within bounds. You are going to skewer Rumsfeld for that?
This makes me remember the good old watergate tapes. "Oh, c'mon, Don, don't be such a prude. Naked prisoner pyramids is a neat idea" "You could do naked prisoner pyramids........but it would be wrong....."
She may be correct, but only a fool wouldn't recognize what she's trying to accomplish (namely, saving her own fat ass). Only a few days ago she was trying to blame the Israelis.
"...said that documents yet to be released by the Pentagon..." The same "yet to be released" Pentagon documents show aliens in Roswell too! This polish broad is trying anything and saying anything to cover her butt. Karpinsky is the best example yet of why women DO NOT belong in the military, especially in charge of Military Police...how many have to die before we learn to keep the broads out of the military? IntheNet
I suppose the only method of interrogation you would agree to would be something along the lines of "please Mr. Prisoner - help tell us where all the bad guys are?" and adding that you will give them surf and turf if they help us? What do you think this is - a garden party?
Brilliant! http://www.landoverbaptist.org/news0704/grandpa.html Will I See My Grandpa Naked After the Rapture?
The two interviews of Karpinski that I've seen, she was kind of spacey. I would bet that there were people outside of her command who went to that prison to do bad things but those reservists, I think, had a lack of structure from Karpinski. Now that doesn't excuse what those soldiers did but I have little regard for Karpinski's story.
Hey moron, did you know sleep deprivation is a violation of the Geneva Convention? Hey moron, did you know that the vast, vast vast majority of or prisoners at Abu Ghraib are guilty of nothing? It fricking amazes me you have the intellectual capacity to turn on a damn computer. Here's some more stuff to be proud of: Thank you, Donnie.
Alex, btousley, all willfully ignorant Bush dick-suckers...you have got to get over this pitiful denial as to the nature of your typical Abu Ghraib prisoner. It is your duty as a citizen to understand this, so that you can be an informed citizen/voter who understands the nature of the Iraq conflict. You know, it's times like these that I believe that our single biggest problem in Iraq is that unpatriotic people like yourselves won't face the moral and intellectual reckoning that would allow you to see the truth, and so the American people aren't a force spurring the Bushies to simple competence. The evil, completely partisan side of me wishes Karpinski's story is true, but the rational, patriotic side realizes she's probably full of crap.
