Karbassiyoon on the squad for Arsenal tonight and is contention for playing time according to BBC. Also saw this reported on SkySports ticker last night.
Further confirmation of Karby being considered today. BTW, Reyna is not in the City squad...I guess he's still recovering from injury.
Of course, as I learned yesterday with respect to Spector, he'll get on the pitch when he gets on the pitch.
Can anyone shed some light as to how Danny has been performing in the Reserve games? Has he adapted quickly to his new position?
Arsenal does a great job of reporting on their reserves. Follow this link and you'll get all of his match reports.
It would be freakin' amazing if another Yank gotta crack here. Against a Premiership side, nonetheless......amazing... The news is overwhelmingly positive (vs. negative) over the last year in YA land. One would have to be foolish to disagree IMO For some reason, I see him on the bench- but we'll see...(would LOVE to be wrong)>..
1. Agree 100%...while there have been some lows, it has been a great year. 2. Karby may very well get the start as Wenger really doesn't care about the Carling Cup at all. He uses this match to give his kids some experience.
Now Sky Sports had on the bottom that younger players and reserves would get time on the Pitch and Karbassiyoon was on the list of names.Ok this is great news because if he does well then he may get some time in the Premiership. He has used Justin Hoyte and Cesc Fabregas. Cesc is a starter or is on the bench every match and Hoyte gets playing time sometimes. If he has a good match then he might get some time in the Premiership.
...an I thought I was the optimist of the bunch. I would just be happy at this point with him having a good showing and getting a loan deal a la Simek.
Yea it would be great if he could get a loan deal but, Wenger does let younger players get on the Pitch. So if had a couple of good matches in the League Cup then he could probably get on the bench for a couple matches in the Premiership. Also Arsenals 49 unbeaten match streak is over so it will be easier for younger players to get on the Pitch.
Not really on the easier for younger players to get on the pitch. if they do well with the time they are given, then yes, but Wenger isn't going to just give someone playing time. That is unless the league is wrapped up by say April. Basically wenger uses the Carling Cup as a chance to give time to senior squad players who haven't had much playing time(Van Persie&Senderos), players that are returning from injury(Keown and Vieira last yr), a try out for some reserve players, and for some reserve players to get some first team action. Here is some more info on the match: http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?...id=&Title=Find+out+about+Arsenal's+youngsters http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?...ling+Cup:+Manchester+City+v+Arsenal+-+Preview
I guess I'm foolish then. It's still early and it could definitely turn around yet, but... McBride is only a 20 minute sub for Fulham Mathis is done at Hannover Howard is most probably forked at Man U Reyna's hurt DMB has inexplicably gotten few minutes after the Arsenal game JOB hasn't played minute 1 so far this year. (that'll change soon thank god) Keller is forked at Spurs Friedel is going down to Div.1 this year Convey is collecting splinters at Reading Thorrington's dead. Mongo killed him I think. Conor Casey is finally getting minutes with Mainz but hasn't looked good at all. From a youth perspective no one has busted out onto a first team yet (this of course is still up in the air too, as I said, it's early in the year) : Simek, Karb, Spector, Whitbread, hell even Cooper doesn't get many minutes for a poor Portuguese Div. 1 side. OTOH no one has regressed youthwise. But I hardly would consider this "overwhelmingly good news". Possibly this changes by May. Perhaps Spector gets first team by the end. The only YA to show well consistently so far are : Eddie Lewis Charlie Blackmouth Gooch Dolo Hahnemann Robbie Russell I'd go so far as to say the news is bad right now, especially with established players, but definitely has the ability to turn around to have more YA good news by the end of the year. This is off the top of my head, so I may have missed a few players.
Yeah, but just over a year ago... Mathis was in NYC Beasley was in Chicago Convey was in DC Howard was in NYC Boca was in Chicago McBride was in C'Bus Spector was an amature forward Cooper was in high school Karby was a striker Simek was anonymous Whitbread was English Jay Demerit was in the A-league IIRC Reyna was looking for a club after being relegated Cherundolo was on the worst defensive team in the world. Gooch was at a 3rd rate club JOB was hurt Russell was far from playing in CL We have had some lows but almost every single guy on that list has had their situation improve drastically this past year.
To try and put the optimist view back for these guys... McBride may be getting a shot now due to injuries, he's not the youngest of players but a good run may give him more playing time the rest of the season. JOB and Reyna - injured - and this is different from other years? DMB and Convey are new overseas, still getting acclimated. DMB in particular seems to have his place or niche with the club Keller and Howard may likely have long seasons with practice squads Friedel is at least being battle hardened but doubt he'll go to The Championship - but rather get sold to another club. Thorrington - yeah, Mongo got him Casey - you're right, hasn't looked the player we hoped... maybe he really is a Div2 star. Not starting for ManU, Aresenal, and Liverpool by the age of 20 - particularly as defenders (which most are) isn't a terrible thing. Now if they were with Crewe and not starting, this wouldn't bode well, but still not be a death knell.
Maybe CC is that ... or maybe it takes a while for someone to get used to a new team in a new <higher> league. Although "Kicker" has been pretty hard on Conor (he got a "5" for his last outing ... ouch), his coach Jürgen Klopp must see some potential there to keep starting him. The way I see it is that it's easier for the speedy outside player to adopt to a new style than for a bruiser like CC, who has to figure out how to take on the experienced Bundesliga defenders. In time, I believe, he'll do just fine.
I want successful YA's. High-profile failures do NOTHING to help the American Soccer cause overseas or here for that matter. Not saying everything is going to hell, just saying it's not "overwhelmingly positive" (and I did say it's still early. Things may change)
Because he's a left back, I'm very interested in Karby's progress. There's a hole for him on the Nats, if Boca plays in the middle and JOB is out with injury. But even for his club career, this is a huge game for him. Arsenal has the young Cole and the younger Clichy at left back. Karby's very unlikely to play for Arsenal much. If he can impress, maybe he'll get loaned out to Div. 1. Even if not, when his contract runs out, he'll have better options.
thomas- I would argue you are not viewing this correctly. At any time, with any country's players abroad- some will be doing well, some not, and some in the middle. Its difficult to get all doing well at same time. More importantly, you have enough depth and breath (and are heading in the right direction) that the section that is doing well enough....is constantly growing. Hell, our section of YAs that are doing well is now GREATER then our YAs (total) was just 2-3 years ago! That's big progress... As importantly, we have a very nice pipeline now (when it used to consist of O'Brien and some guy from Univ. of Portland in the reserves of some mid-table 2nd division BL side). Its a numbers game in the end. We've made HUGE progress. We aren't there yet, but the progress is astounding. Nuetral observers have identified some true gems (Gooch, Spector, etc.). These are your possible star players and/or a breakthru from less recognized types. The future of US Soccer (YAs) has NEVER looked brighter...in my mind, a quantum leap from any other period in YA history (where onesies and twosies prevailed)...
Without addressing your entire overwhelmingly pessimistic viewpoint, I will throw out the one that is my favorite. Casey is breaking into a new club that is 6th in the BL. He looks to be starting his third straight game today. He was fighting for a spot with a very similar player that starred for the team last year in their promotion fight who does not have to contend with being flown half way around the world for Nats call-ups. Now, the club seems to have changed tactics to allow them both to start. Your reports of Casey's failure seem to be greatly exaggerated.
Alright, sidenote here... which I guess is a sidenote on a sidenote since we're really supposed to be discussing the match between Arsenal and ManCity today... But, how impressive is a quantum leap? It's a change in the quantum level in an atom... not exactly a big difference ... actually hard to move a shorter distance Ok, now back to how good/bad our players abroad are doing... or maybe back to the thread about Danny and Arsenal playing ManCity...
Ok heres the deal not every YA is doing well but alot are doing very well. The Good DMB-Now starting to play more and more with PSV and is doing well over in the Netherlands Boca-Plays almost every minutes for Fulham and is their best defender by far(Yes its true Boca is their best defender by far) some would say that he is a top 15 defender in the Premiership. Eddie Lewis-Most of the time has a good match for PNE and is one of their best players Freidel-Now just because Blackburn are doing horrible so far he is doing very well and some had him as the best keeper in the Premierhsip after the Man Utd match he is still a top 5-7 keeper in the Premiership. There are alot more YAs that are doing well in Europe. Not everyone is doing bad in Europe there are alot more YA doing good than there are doing bad.
