First of three meetings with Vancouver within a month: 8/20 MLS SKC-VAN 8/23 CCL VAN-SKC 9/13 CCL SKC-VAN Note the late start time.
Why such a late start? This is a great start time in July when it is so Brutally hot. They should play all those games at 9 pm on the weekend.
Think it was because it was broadcast in Vancouver. Great weather either way. Weird lineup, worrisome game, awkward reffing, darn good result. And I think Dwyer got more touches on Ousted than he did on the ball.
I can't imagine any team worrying about the broadcast time in another city. It would be like Vancouver deciding to start it's game at 5:30 pm because it's 7:30 pm in Kansas City, a better broadcast time. Actually I think it adds to the atmosphere to start the game in the heat of the summer on Friday or Saturday nite to start at 8:30 pm. It will be a more pleasant time because the east stands will be in the shade by then, and it will have started to cool off for the nite. If there are storms in the unstable heat of the day, they usually hit about sundown, and taper off later (not always, but it seems that way).. If they have a special group of the summer games in that window, I think it makes the games special for the fans.. I'd think starts times should vary some by the season. Very early games in the season should be afternoon games, and play the games in late fall in the afternoon. This applies to weekend games only. Midweek games are different.
It wasn't just the broadcast in Vancouver, it was nationally broadcasted in Canada on TSN, that's why the 9pm start. And it ********ing sucked. I have no interest in any more games that finish after 11pm and don't see me getting home until well after midnight.
Uh...that is being way to kind to Stott. The man is an idiot. Dom picked up a completely unnecessary yellow card by running Ousted into the ground when he had no play on the ball. Frustration fowl on his part. I can't say that I am sold on Zusi playing right back while Peterson plays wing, but Jake is producing goals and Zusi is struggling in that department. I'm not sure if this was a one time positional change just for this game or if he has something else in mind for Zusi going forward.
Yeah 9:00 PM is too late for a start. Thank goodness it was Saturday night and not Sunday. Temperature was such a pleasant change from the recent sauna-like conditions of the recent Sunday afternoon matches. A well deserved three points.
I'd say 1 time thing to give Abdul-Salaam a break after playing 90 vs Dallas and Central in the last week.
Well, it's at least a two time thing, so far. Zusi played RB in a game earlier this season. He looked good in that game as well, as I recall. Letting Zusi bomb up the field could be a good use of him. Would make use of his work rate. He would just have to play some reasonable defense. He wouldn't be the first player to extend a career by moving toward defense.
It was a surprisingly fun game to watch--lots of crisp passing, with some fancy dribbling sprinkled here and there--but the finishing was woeful, as usual. Even Feilhaber's two PKs were bad; I thought that the whole point of the stutter-step was to see which way the keeper goes, and then shoot the other way.
Absolutely! They could start it at 8 PM or 8:30 PM in the brutal summer and it would make a world of difference for comfort for the fans. On Friday and Saturday I see it as a positive even if you get home at 11 or 11:30 pm.
Yeah, I kinda liked the late start time as well. I had to take a nap in the afternoon to stay up that late (9-10 is my normal bed time), but I didn't have to listen to everyone complain about 100 degree heat in direct sunlight the whole time, so that was nice.
Did the DisCo every rule on that blatant elbow to Zusi's head by Christian Bolanos? He should get at least a one game suspension if not more.
Ruling could come later today with games tomorrow, or since Vancouver doesn't play til the weekend they may wait
Ellis's looked reckless and uncoordinated to me, not vicious and intentional like Bolanos's. But then, can't pretend I'm terribly objective here.
