Honestly, I think more flop than succeed, at least historically. Which is a decently positive thing to point at our system with, but a potentially negative thing to consider about our scouting capabilities.
From the looking I do at former players, for every Ilie that does well there’s at least two like Croizet, Barath, or Puncec who are now playing in lower leagues (Hungary for the first two, Bulgaria for the third). Or still without a club like Martins.
Agreeing with everything you said, just wanted to add that at least in this game the problem wasn't just not being dangerous in the final third but not being able to pass through the Vancouver press. I feel like there was a whole lot of aimless booting the ball upfield, and I think Ilie would have helped with that.
