I thought he was gonna say something snotty like "we've done more for Black music than the Blacks themselves, dig?" Oh and Bianca > Jerry Hall
1971 - the Stones flee to France to avoid British taxes. Mick & Bianca get married there. And dad Joe Jagger goes home to England with his wedding gift ashtray still in the bag. The most dejected participant might well have been Jagger’s father, Joe, who “looked and felt like a stranger at his eldest son’s biggest day.” Throughout two separate vows and the ceremony, he never had a chance to present his son and new daughter-in-law with his gift, which left the event with him. Speaking to a reporter afterward, his take on the day was summed up with, “I hope my other son doesn’t become a superstar.” https://nypost.com/2016/06/11/mick-jaggers-1971-wedding-was-the-shabbiest-free-for-all-in-history/
I'm getting really frustrated with the Kamala campaign. As far as I can tell, they seem to think that communicating better policy is the key to success. In the meantime, Trump is stealing the spotlight based on the tactics discussed in the Media Failure Thread. At this point, policy is roughly as important as whose name appears first on the ballot. I want to see trolling. I want to see namecalling. I want to see someone dressed in a giant chicken suit ask Trump about when he'll stop using the n-word. The more aggressive her campaign appears, the better the turnout will be. Nobody gives a shit about policy anymore. Rattle him.
I happen to know a nice place that just went up for sale. The owner is desperate to sell before the election!
haha! we have a good friend in the greater Portland area. In fact, I proudly officiated her wedding several years ago and she's still happily married to her wife (one of my greatest life accomplishments, all three couples I've married are still happily together ). So, we've done some looking in that area (greater Portland and across the river in WA) but realized we have to sell our house here first, so we're thinking about getting it on the market in early spring. You're in Seattle, right? Edit: Ahh, Olympia, doh. Probably a little too far north for us.
She's better than Hillary at it but to some extent this is true. Campaigns are used to our "normal" smear tactics in American politics. Not the asymmetrical warfare needed to fight Trump. One has to be as nasty or nastier than him. Hopefully they've targeted the regions in swing states to visit in the last weeks of the campaign as Donnie goes to Coachella & MSG. Hillary kinda took off from visiting these states when her team thought the election was in the bag.
There has been a lot of criticism among the low information voters that they don't know her. So this week was a blitz of her going on various media to tell people who she is and what she is proposing. I don't think it is problematic at all.
No comment because I'm focused on the future. https://t.co/90NmQAb540— Mark Hamill (@MarkHamill) October 10, 2024
You can do both simultaneously. See Obama's speech last night, for instance. You don't think that rattled Trump?
One thing I keep hearing is that there are turnout worries from Floruda to North Carolina because of Helene and Marlin. To my ear, that has been an outsized story over the past couple week or two.
Thank you for this. I've been saying it for years to three or four specific posters in this forum. And even there, it's not completely true. It isn't nastiness when you do it to a conservative. We all need to remember that the high road is not how we treat racists and sexists and homophobes --they deserve much worse than we are legally allowed to do to them-- the high road is living our lives to oppose such people. I cannot take the low road. It simply isn't possible. Any road I take becomes the high road by default so long as I don't stray from my opposition to what are now mainstream conservative principles. Kinda? IIRC, she didn't visit MI, PA or OH at all. it doesn't make sense, but that's what I recall people saying.
That was par for the course in the time. Run For Your Life? Getting Better? Both are Beatles songs that have references to violence. Praising women of color for sexual prowess goes faaaaaaar beyond sexist violence. A Black woman who was weird and desperate enough to ******** Mick Jagger? I have no doubt she was good at it. His White ass has no business assuming high-level skills for the rest of the demo. The biggest part. They toured with the tune for years after acknowledging the ugliness of it.
huh. Did not know this. I've been to tons of weddings but none that were officiated by anyone but mainstream religious clergy. I've been to one funeral that was officiated by a UU minister. That was just kind of weird. Faith without any of the don'ts or guilt makes no sense. I guess I just didn't figure a Stones fan, with their racist baggage, to be a clergyman is all. Not a proper one anyhow.
