It was the economy, stupid. Exit poll data has 67% of all voters saying the economy was "not good" or "poor" and Trump won 69% of them. From the Latino voter segment, 40% identified the economy as their number one issue, 13% ahead of the next-highest issue (democracy). Trump won 66% of those. Harris got just 33%, the lowest percentage for any Democratic since Latinos/Hispanics became a polling category in the mid-70s. First-past-the-post systems set up binaries. She had to identify the most important binary and come up with an answer. She had a plan that was (relatively) better than his in the sense that there was some realism and a fair deal of detail, but she rarely talked about it. She never put it front and centre.
No but it was for the six years I lived in Florida. Not knowing much about the world...how's it going for you?
I didnt complain. I was mocking you. We are mocking you. You made a mockery of yourselves by ignoring what poor people care about. You are an endless source of amusement for me and I hope you keep crying here for the next 4 or more years.
I think the fact that he presents a macho veneer over his obviously bottomless well of insecurity is exactly what appeals to these men (and many women, for that matter). It’s very relatable.
Yeah, and she had plenty of chances. Kamala's closing argument speech last Tuesday was a bit disappointing, in that regard. Far too negative. The first 5 minutes were all about Trump, and the rest I think was still at least 50% Trump (though not really sure since I half tuned-out because of those first 5 minutes).
Silly me. I prefer ceding authority to people who can do things that are beyond me. Voting for someone on those grounds is like hoping your soccer club starts fielding a team consisting of morbidly obese chainsmokers. "Hey, I could BE that guy!"
Yup. Until I read that last sentence of your post, I was about to write "Have you met any young men lately?" What a collection of whiny losers! Shocking but not baffling.
Repeat: Damn good article. And it's not Wednesday Morning quarterbacking, since Brooks wrote the article a couple of months ago. Again, the archive. link for those who are paywalled... https://archive.ph/wLsQo
Oh, I get it. Bad analogies are indicators of bad faith argumentation. Combine them with changing the subject and there's evidence. Still, let's play. If you deflate the money supply and trigger a recession that depresses my pay, that's also stealing money because it's harder for me to buy goods, no? If you deflate the money supply and trigger a depression which eliminates my job and a quarter of my neighbour's jobs entirely while sending the value of my (mortgaged) home into the crapper, that's . . . .? Some people would say it's armed robbery YMMV
Last I checked, the economy is not great in any practical sense, as goods and services are still 30 percent more expensive than they were 5 years ago, and housing is way more expensive. Stop deluding yourself on the economy. also, the poor Americans who compete with migrants for jobs and wages are actively hurt by the increased competition for jobs and housing. Last I checked, all of the drug dealers in the SF Tenderloin are migrants. Last I checked, public schools in California have been completely gutted due to the societal obligation to educate migrant children or children of migrants. That forces anyone who cares about the education of their kids (important to many) in these areas to go private.
"He's a very successful businessman!" Why, Today, I'm going to celebrate by grilling Trump Steaks while sipping Trump Vodka and moving my degree from Trump University to a more prominent place in my house. All while wearing my New Jersey Generals jersey. That will really stick it to my ex-wives! Wait til they see me raking in my winnings after I take Trump Airlines to Atlantic City to win bigly at his Casinos!
yes, inflation was terrible for a couple of years, but it has been under control for a while now. Its also a global problem that was caused by governments handing out large amounts of money to citizens during COVID, whether those people needed the money or not. Something that the US was also doing under both Trump and Biden (which is why I say inflation was 50% Trump's fault). Sounds made up (and anecdotal). This is just a rephrasing of the "they are eating the cats and dogs" story.
I find it funny how people call the right-wing anti-democratic even though Trump and Bolsonaro were the ones who suffered assassination attempts. If that's the left's view of democracy, I advise all of them moving to Venezuela.
The guy who shot at Trump was a registered Republican using a rifle that Democrats have been trying to ban for pretty much those whole century. But you don't care about reality.
You don't deserve to have Robert Smith in your profile pic. I am 100% positive that if he were here right now, he would tell you to go eat a dick or two.
Most of the day after postmortems, which are based on preliminary and incomplete exit poll data and shoot from the hip opinion, are going to be wrong or at least incomplete. We should all give this a little time to shake out before drawing conclusions about why, how, and what now.
So you're comparing the guy who's the actual party leader says things like "i'd like to be dictator for a day", praises dictators around the world, is part of a ploy to overturn elections with fake electors, a portion of that guy's voters tried to stop the DEMOCRATIC voting certification process by invading the Capitol and threatening the lives of those politicians ... to an assassination attempt from a random individual ? That's the threat to democracy ? How in the world do you square this away ?
