No opponents named yet... Juventus planning North American tour, Toronto game set for Aug. 3 SALICE TERME, Italy (CP) - Juventus is coming to Canada. The famed Italian soccer team is planning a two-game tour of North America next month with games in Toronto and New York. Juventus had been planning to travel to China, but will now go west. "We decided to cancel the tour of China, because there were too many commercial requests for such a delicate phase of the season," Juventus commercial director Romy Gai said Monday. "I'm awaiting the last details to confirm two games in North America, Aug. 3 in Toronto and Aug. 6 in New York," Gai said in a statement, offering no further details. Juventus already completed a highly successful tour of Japan at the beginning of last month. There was no immediate word on venue in Toronto, although the Rogers Centre is free on Aug.3. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Soccer/2005/07/11/1126790-cp.html
Well if they have trouble landing a EURO opponent, at this late date, for the New York match, you can be sure that Lalas will be lobbying for the MetroStars.. As for an opponent in Toronto.. Your guess is as good as mine..
Damn, can't make the Toronto date... but the NYC is sweet because I'll already be there. Anyone else from here planning on going?
I think they will annouce opponents before they announce a ticket sales date.. Or both at the same time..
Not funny. You people really need to learn geography up there. May as well do something while the NHL is idle. I doubt they play MetroStars, since they're busy opening up Pizza Hut Park in Dallas on August 6th. All other MLS teams have scheduled games as well, so presumably they'll have to import someone. Maybe said someone could play MetroStars on say August 1st or so.
it may not be geography as much as the fact that the NEW YORK jets and the NEW YORK giants play in new jersey and the game will most likely be played at Giants stadium
And soon they are going to tear down MSG and the NEW YORK KNICKS will be sharing with the NEW JERSEY NETS
Turin, uncoincidentally, is holding the winter Olympics soon, as they are northern city and closer to the Swiss rockies. I believe that during the summer Turin is actually quite nice, mild heat as opposed to southern Italy which is more like monster, unlivable heat.
I was ten rows behind the bench, and it was hot as hell. I don't know why they closed the dome. It was idiotic. But I'd wear a parka to see my Juve if that's what it takes.
Any truth to the Italian Super Cup being played in NY? This could be a possibility if they are coming to the U.S.
Well I do remember watching Juve beat Milan at the Swamp for the Super Coppa Italia. The heat that day was unbearable, on the field it was 120.
