Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the Catholic Church here, but it's not like Protestants haven't had any success in producing their own insane, hate-filled clergy. See "Rev. Ian Paisley" for starters.

Sounds as if you have an axe to grind here. Not to excuse the actions of perverted priests but how about examining England's record throughout the centuries? That should keep you busy for a few decades.

Contrary to popular belief round here, I have no axe to grind and certainly wasn't coming at it from a religious zealot direction.
True plenty of things have happened regarding other religions but I thought it was something worthy of note.

I know mr Cascarinos pizza guy thinks that my point in posting that was to do down the Irish or the catholics or any number of people that aren't English.
Yes the English have done plenty through the ages - a point that is made and accepted on a regular basis on many threads. Happy now?

As you both noted - how awful both paedophilia and the terrorism aspect is - that was my point, and that alone. (And besides, the paedophilia stories of late have been coming out of the US, so I was blatantly not having a go at our Irish cousins - this was an issue of religion and not nationality, don't confuse the two as plenty of others have done to lots of people's detriment) Not how much more awful the catholics are than the English or the protestants (yes Joe, Dr. Paisley is another religious bigot and helps as much as anyone else does to perpetuate the N.Irish troubles, not for one second was my initial post meant to sound like support for 'the other side of the coin')- I myself am Catholic and was posting from my point of view.
How is one supposed to have pride in what they believe in, when heads of the church are doing unspeakable things and those higher in the church heirarchy are sweeping things under the carpet and carrying on.
As a catholic, one is meant to be able to confide and trust ones priest etc, with increasing numbers of stories coming out about misdemeanors, that will be increasingly difficult to do.

I will now go an flog myself for whatever crimes the nation I call home has perpetrated in centuries past. And will try to figure out how to word things without getting the knee-jerk reaction that I'm somehow commenting on the supremacy of all things that are English by commenting on matters of other faiths/countries that aren't so glowing.
