Anyway, while in Disney World, I noticed that the Chelsea marketing machine still isn't up and running yet. When I'm on vacation I always pay attention to t-shirts, and no one was wearing Chelsea shirts. After a week there, I saw: 30+ England 16 Man Utd 13 Arsenal 11 Newcastle (!) Granted, four were worn by one family, but still... 8 Inter Milan 6 West Ham 5 or 6 Brazil 4 Scotland 3 Ireland 2 Chelsea 2 Sunderland 1 Stoke, Spurs, WBA, Leeds, Charlton, Juve, Holland 6 or 7 1-off teams that I didn't recognize 0 AC Milan Not a lot of surprises there, we'd expect Man Utd to have sold more shirts than us, but the relative support for Newcastle and Inter were a bit of a surprise. Very few of the non-Man Utd or England jerseys had player names and numbers. Most of the Man Utd shirts had names. Rooney was the big winner there, both for Man Utd and England. Big winners in American Sports: Chicago Cubs and Red Sox. I didn't write them down, but I saw 20 - 30 jerseys or shirts each. Who knew the Cubs had so many fans? Big losers in American Sports: The NBA. Half the jerseys I saw were Michael Jordan jerseys, including one New Jersey Nets jersey with Jordan's name and 23
Wow.. I'm surprised your pencil never fell out of your pocket on the rides! Weird results though. Go Stoke City?
Just curious, but did you see the trend with NBA or NFL jerseys where they wear them backwards so the name was showing in the front? I saw that at Six Flags a couple years back and was hoping it wasn't a permanent trend.
Man Utd sells a lot of jerseys -and- There's not a lot of people on the Chelsea bangwagon yet. Obviously, that's not much of a prediction, but I was pleased to see how well we did and surprised by the depth of Newcastle support. Oh, and Rooney's far more popular than C Ronaldo....
When I was at Disney back in January (the weekend of the Bolton loss), I saw a fellow walk by with an Arsenal hat on. Not knowing the score yet of the aforementioned match, I asked him if he knew. He had no clue what I was talking about. I pointed to his hat and said..."you have an Arsenal cap on. I was trying to find out if they won today." He responded that he just bought the hat at a Nike town because he thought the cannon was cool. But hey....I interpreted the whole incident as being evidence that the club is getting bigger....such that we have totally clueless people buying our gear. That's my rambling probably not really on topic anecdote of the day.
well, atleast to those people who you've seen wearing shirts at Disney Land... those numbers are interesting though... did u encounter any counterfits or were all the kits authentic?
Well he was right. Cannon = . I had the same thing happen with a guy in a ManU shirt when I was in Chicago. He didn't know it was a soccer team...just like Glazer a couple of years ago.
Yes, the whole story segues nicely to the story of how later that day I dropped the eff bomb at Epcot upon learning the score. My wife was certain that Disney arrested people for such things but I managed to beat the rap.
I thought I was going to get thrown out of there last year, as I just couldn't stop cursing, with the highlight being me screaming "mother **********er!" on the Rock 'N Roller Coaster. And yeah, I've seen a bunch of shirts there as well. It was like every club in the EPL was represented there the last time I was there.
I saw a guy with an Arsenal "Double" t-shirt a few years ago at a Dolphins game. We were passing in the parking lot and asked if he saw the score the previous day, but he replied he couldn't find a place to watch the game! So I steered him in the right direction and we parted. Also here in town, I have see a guy jogging in the mornings on the way to work and sometimes he wears a Dreamcast jersey. I almost wrecked the first time I saw him I was so stunned!!!
That is the general make up of a Newcastle family. 1. DAD. Home Shirt. 2. MUM. Away Shirt. 3. ELDEST KID. Goalie shirt. 4. YOUNGEST KID. Last season's home shirt, previously worn by eldest kid. ! By the way, I saw a few Arsenal shirts being worn at Indianapolis at the Formula 1 Grand Prix (!!??) last week-end, and not by Brits !
I went to grad school in Melbourne, FL and traveled through the Orlando airport often. I noticed three ways (either seperate or combined) to pick out most English people there: 1. Footie jersey and track pants 2. Blindingly white skin (arriving) and glowing red skin (leaving) 3. The phrase shouted at children "Oi! Shut it!"
The entire english footie fan base in Arkansas 1. me 2. King Henry in Fayetteville 3. a West Ham fan who works at the Sears in the local mall, asked me about my kit 4. the guy at the cable company who helped me get a box for the FA CUP/Sheffield united replay lots of Boca Juniors here though
under this theory, would the youngest kid not be wearing last year's goalie shirt instead of last years home shirt?
"Billyho": Good suggestion, but "NO". You didn't take into account the Xmas present from Granny, and he alternates each year between home kit and goalie shirt, so he doesn't clash with Mum and Dad, or youngest kid, who gets to wear last season's cast off! (When the kids reach their late teen's they then where Mum and Dad's shirts as "historical ones").
that has got to be a proud moment...your dad/mom giving you their old jersey....I can't wait to pass down mine!
