hey friends!!! haven't posted in like a trillion billion days so i thought i'd share with y'all a bit of my random fandomness for pink footie pajamas and other happy thoughts like giving our girls fun things like underwear with their pictures on them. hehehe. oh the fun times of throwing dead birds at dumb people and making completely random road trips to cheer on our girls & give them plenty of goodies(and maybe bring home a cool souvineer like a millie autograped starbucks napkin). oh, but 4 yrs ago knowing the players (& their hubbies) on a first name basis was nothing more than a fantasy we would have while tucked in our beds at late at night. i would've given my left hand just to get Mac's autograph in person (& i'm left-handed). never in our wildest imaginations did we ever conceive the idea of Tisha calling our house (elo). my pictures of Tracy & I and Brandi & I hang in my room and they will forever to remind me of the happy times. and times equally as happy as those with our girls are the times we've shared together. and i'm not just referring to the 4am chats during sept 2000 when we were typing the lord's prayer when millie scored her goal. i enjoyed meeting up with many of you at various games and events. 2 summers in a row stacy & i met up in Chapel Hill and in 2001 Maria & I spent a week together (1 of the funnest weeks ever). i'll never forget those times - ever. its crazy to think that the wwc is right around the corner, but this year is different. we know the girls now and we won't be just cheering on the cool girls we read about in magazines. and the foreign players - we are now familiar with several of them & they will be receiving cheers from us too. what a fun time - we are so lucky. so... are you foudious???? oh, and Inge, how could i leave out KD and mr deplatchett (what a cool dad) - even though he isn't ours: happy fathers day Bud! the kd fan club will never die!
YP!!!! it's been ages! i dropped ya an email in reply to the message you sent to me a while back, and haven't heard from ya! glad to see you're alive and kicking! those were the days eh? and to think the next world cup is fast approaching...4 years already! time files!!!! MiaZone to WWContheWWW days ... i'm a refugee! lol man...we should have a reunion or something... elaine
join the kristin deplatchett fan club! woo! I found my 2000 and 3000 posts the other day, for those of you that remember back when i posted like 8 times a day. crazy. I miss everyone and the fandom. Be thankful for the WUSA. My brother is at a soccer camp today, and it was so nice to see a bunch of young kids learning to love the game. Long live fandom. Hey ace, its not obsession, it's avid fandom! I hope everyone is doing well, especially the refugees. it's been so long. thank you for the good memories. hairy casey! oh yeah...
YP! It's been right around 4 years since everything started to happen. I remember beanie babies and stories of going to games. There was nothing better than a refugee going to a USWNT game! Lots of things have changed since then, but fandom will never die. Hairy Casey! Where's Tim?
I was saying the same thing the other day.. Time is flying by!! My friends in high school used to call me "Soocer Stalker" because I talked about the team so much.. Nobody in college calls me that anymore.. It's kind of sad.. On another sad note, my dog, named MacLilly.. named after.. well.. you know.. She has kidney failure and they might be putting her to sleep.. And she's just so important to me.. She kind of ties me to you guys too, because I took some of your opinions on what to name her and if you thought MacLilly was a good name.. Long live the refugees! FOOTIE POWER FOREVER!!
oh and just so you all know, im about 1 semester away from graduating with a spts management degree with full intentions of working either with the wusa to help make it a success or taking over ussf. in a couple years i'll invite you all to come hang out with me in the luxury suites of a game. dont be surprised when you hear my name or see my picture in the near future when searching for the latest womens soccer news.
WOW!! OK, I know I haven't posted in well, almost FOREVER. And I wouldn't even be surprised if no one even remembered me with the exception of a few. Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know that even though I don't post much (I mainly just read everyone else's posts), these boards have been awesome and I am so fortunate to have made such great friends because of them. Ok, I'll stop before I get too sappy.
Good deal yvonne. Anyway you could graduate ASAP, and, you know, get us all on the field as we watch our girls kick ass once again at WWC 2003? No pressure Good to see the fandomness (i think its a word) is alive, kicking, and will never ever die.
Wow! Long time, no see! Hey everyone--Maria here! I couldn't even remember my old screenname! Actually, I think last time i was on I had a different screenname, but hey, it's all good. Um, what's up with me? I've been playing lax and not really following soccer much the past few (two) years. Sorry! I feel bad! But lately I've been going to wusa.com and checking stuff out. I'm excited for the WWC!!! Anyway, hey everyone!
Its been 4 years! Man. I feel old now. okay still only 19. I still get excited when I get to meet a USWNT soccer player although now some of them are my age. lol. I haven't posted in a while either. Being a two sport collegiate athlete plus student athletic trainer job has kept me busy during the school year. Yvonne, next summer I hope to be interning at the Women's Sports Foundation (hoping for experience for a future job in sports *crosses fingers*) so maybe in the years to come we'll be rubbing elbows at some women's sporting event in the VIP area. Just like to say even though I don't post as much I still come visit and love hearing all the stories. Speaking of stories, Welshie just had a chat and she answered one of my questions! Are you Foudious? I know Shannon the Cannon Ann Big Mac MacDaddy Macalicious .....MacMillan is. Where have all the Christie Welsh fans gone? Nicole, Inge, Darci, and me. The Originals.
aww that was so great. i just happened to look at BS for a second and saw this thread. I even forgot what my password was from my lack of visiting. I have become such a slack soccer fan...my life is now music, music, and music. BUT i really should get back into the whole soccer thing. those were some fun times... the chats at 4am.. lol that was funny..and of course the dead birds.. that never got thrown i cant believe it's been 4 years, thats insane.. i was a little youngin back then, haha.
Wow, i saw so much fandom i couldn't resist dropping a word or two in! Hey YP, MK, AceDawg, and All ya'll out there that i haven't talked to in a long time. Its time to get fired up for the WC again! I bought my tickets to the games in Portland, Let me know if anyone else is going to be there.... YP~Awwww, such fond memories... remember running into Mr. Ducar at Bruegers Bagels??
Hey Ho! War P-Lo!!!!! Not sure how many nicknames I've gone through by now, the latest change because of a cookie problem, but I, Footie Man, a prime supporter of all the pink footie craziness, am still very much around. I have attended my first two WNT matches (August 2002 v. Scotland at Columbus, and April 2003 v. Canada at RFK), and a WUSA match (cheering my Atlanta Beat to a 1:1 draw with Washington in April at RFK). Both games were awesome. I wore my Beat jersey to both venues and got up really close to where Cindy and Mia were practicing on the Columbus pitch. Cindy waved at somebody in my vicinity; I like to pretend it was me, being the one of the only people that day with a Beat shirt on :lol . Havent met her though, although I have met several other nats and other WUSA players. Foudy, Hooper, Noftsinger, Sobrero, and one other whose name I forget (a non WNTer on the Freedom). Mostly a very, very, very nice bunch. So anyway, I still totally love women's soccer. I love the USWNT; they are my favorite team, club or country, in the world. I'm a rabid fan of Cindy Parlow (and many others to an extent). I am not QUITE certain about making it to the WWC this year but I'm going to try to make it work, especially to Columbus (I didn't much care for RFK; I am about to go cheer my men's team, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, against DC United in the Open Cup, and it's supposed to be at the MD soccer complex in Boyds, which looks beautiful from the website pics. I wish the Freedom would move there (but where is Boyds, MD, anyway?). I doubt the WUSA will ever come to Pittsburgh, but I'd just as happily go for a W-League team, which seems somewhat possible. Well, glad to see some veterans are still around. I'm somewhat busy these days, but good to see you nonetheless. I almost started this very thread, but I didn't know anybody was still around, as I've forgotten names and such. All us Cindy Parlow fans ought to chip in and get her two pairs of footie PJ's. One powder blue and one purple! Atlanta Beat colors! lol Oh heck, how bout a third, pink pair? Pink is the unofficial US national team color for footie PJs! lol She'll love us! Anyhow, see you all around. GO USA! Go Footie Power! Cory aka Footie Man aka Nacional Tijuana coryma@earthling.net
wow I just found this thread (due to mostly being in the KK or on the Rays board and not venturing into the other wonders of BS ). Dang its been a long time since I seen yall posting...good to see it! Yall better come back and join in the fandom during this WWC too! WAR AVID FANDOM WAR USA good to hear you're doin so well, YP! I'm graduating in 2 semesters (plus 1 more class) with a degree in Exercise & Sports Studies and a concentration in Sports Administration. I plan to start assistant coaching a college team after that, as well as doing some personal training stuff.
Funny how things change eh?? Here we were, a bunch of high school girls (and boys) and maybe some of us a bit older.. Now look at us, college kids, almost graduating.. or at least getting up there. You guys are like family to me, we can always change, but we'll still be close. It's good to know we can ALWAYS come home.. maybe it's not wwconthewww...but it IS home. I miss you all! And Maria, i just want you to know that I live in Cape Girardeau now, going to SEMO, I'm sure you've probably heard of it, being as you're from Missouri and all.. I miss you guys, and I'll try my best to stay in touch and DEFINITELY be back for the WWC.. I'm managing my college basketball team.. We were one game away from the tourney last year. Going to the pre-season NIT, so look for us if you're a women's college basketball fan.. Southeast Missouri State University.. You know how we do it..
As much as I'm a UConn W.B. fan (because my cousin went there on a field hockey scholarship for a year), I'm all about Mo. schools, too. Don't know too much about Southeast, but my former pastor was from Cape G. My aforementioned cousin lives upstate a couple hours in metropolitan St. Louis, going to Webster College, methinks. I shall look for Southeast this year! Good luck. Cory Footie Man
I can't believe some of the names I'm seeing post. I guess I really can't talk because I probablly average 1 post a month at this point. My love of soccer and these women hasn't died though.I still watch every game, and the ones I can't watch live I Tivo. Glad to see all of you doing well. I am too. Happily married, teaching, working on my masters. Not a lot of time for posting, but I'll make time during the WC. Talk to you all soon. Jay
