We have just entered a new geological epoch. Goodbye Holocene, Hello Anthropocene. http://news.stanford.edu/news/2012/july/anthropocene-podcast-project-00512.html
Not "personocene"? I thought humankind's impact on the environment started with agriculture. Didn't we delay an ice age?
um, no. I don't think so. why wasn't I consulted on this prior to it happening?? this kind of thing doesn't happen without my knowledge and authority. sorry human kind, we are still in the Holocene until further notice.
It started long before that, for example some hunter-gatherers changed the environment through controlled burns, and they also may have been the primary factor in the American megafauna being wiped out. But even so, I agree with them that the really massive changes didn't start until we discovered how much fun it was to burn the earth's stores of fossil fuels.
