    I thought humankind's impact on the environment started with agriculture. Didn't we delay an ice age?

    It started long before that, for example some hunter-gatherers changed the environment through controlled burns, and they also may have been the primary factor in the American megafauna being wiped out.

    But even so, I agree with them that the really massive changes didn't start until we discovered how much fun it was to burn the earth's stores of fossil fuels.
