Since it has been nearly two years since Thierry Henry unveiled the "Bang! Goes the Nil-Nil Draw" shirt, maybe a change for our forum tag line is in order. And since the club seems to have forgotten it in its marketing (although more than ever, it seems to fit the team we put on the pitch, maybe it's time to make a change: Victoria Concordia Crescit To head off the question in advance, it means "Victory through Harmony."
Ian, your showing your age. Marketing wanted the emblem and slogan to be cool and hip and appeal to younger fans. That is what we are not cool or hip, so I concur. Maybe there should be a change and it certianly reflects the teams play right now!
Perhaps we could have the slogan changed to: "Our whack new marketing is fly with the 18 to 35 male demographic! And it's copywrited! Word!"
Word? Do they still say that? Maybe Im cooler than I thought. Drop the Demo below 30 as Im 32 and it does not appeal to me.
Notice the winking face... The demographic to which the new logo actually appeals is : Marketing Consultants employed by Arsenal Football Club.
'Victory grows out of harmony.' according to the officail website. Also, I don't think they use it anymore. Can't seem to find any mention of it outside of its use with the old badge.
I could have had some real fun with this but since youse mah homes I'll refrain. But returning to the topic of the thread, I think it's a pisser of an idea. Lets make the switch.
So let me make sure I understand. One on hand you don't mind having a laugh at Arsenal for changing their motto, while on the other hand you suggest we change ours? "Hello, kettle? Yes, this is pot. Um, you're black." While this is certainly a democracy, as long as I have a say I want it to say "Bang! Goes..." That's what we decided on last year and it's still perfectly suited as we seem to score, and score first, in just about every game.
I don't disagree, but think of it this way: Across the board, this forum has expressed our displeasure with the club's headlong run from its tradition. (Granted, this is still nowhere near as bad as the Wimbledon situation.) This is a way for us to say we still hold on to it, even though AFC is just chasing the revenue streams. This tradition supersedes our obscure little one.
It might be obscure and little, but it's ours. I love Arsenal as much as the next guy, but if they do something that's going to screw over The KY Gunner, I'm siding with him, not AFC. So, voice your displeasure at them all you want, but don't tear down something else to do it.
