I used to be so excited about this kid, the hype was crazy among Salvadoran fans. Dude’s career never even materialised
Transfermarkt lists him as being retired. According to their data, he was released from Dortmund's reserve team on July 1st 2018 and hasn't registered with anyone, anywhere in their database since then, and they track as far down as the NISA. There's also what looks like his Instagram page, which is regularly updated. The guy in there looks fine, living in a decent house, but is carrying a bit too much weight for a semi-pro or even a competitive amateur player. There are also a few photos of him cradling babes. Two of them to be precise; a newborn baby and its mom. He turned 25 in March, so he's done as a player but is moving on with his life. Let's wish him luck and hope he gets back into the game in the youth system. Anyone who spent four years with Dortmund youth structure will have picked up a lot just by having his wits about him.
He seems to have gone quiet about his football career since leaving BVB II because there’s no explanation why he couldn’t have gone to another club, I follow Salvadoran footballers on IG, including Flores. Those aren’t his kids, he’s just a proud tio Agreed, hopefully he can get into coaching, scouting or something. Those years at BVB have got to count for something!!
A very proud tio from the looks of him. And being an uncle is the better deal. Spoil them rotten and you get all the adoration with none of the bills
Maybe all those injuries got to him and he had enough. Tiene muchos años de no jugar. Creo que las lesiones lo alejaron de las canchas. https://t.co/mt6cdsDfqp— SelectaTalent (Hugo Alvarado) (@SelectaTalent) August 2, 2021
Maybe he could have continued to play, even in pain, but if you once had starter for Dortmund in your sights and instead have to reconcile yourself to ekeing out a "living" in the Oberliga or PDL Pro before being forced to retire at 30, you'd have to say that he was wise to jack it in at 21 and still be healthy.
I'm not sure I completely understand why someone just published an extensive (German) story about Flores, featuring what appear to be recent quotes about his time at Dortmund, but here it is. https://www.spox.com/de/sport/fussb...-junior-flores-bei-borussia-dortmund-ftr.html
The article talks extensively about his role as the pioneer of Dortmund’s youth international scouting network. As mentioned in the article, after him came: Pulisic, Jacob Bruun Larsen, Immanuel Pherai, Kamal Bafounta, Giovanni Reyna, Bradley Fink. I’m not sure what the inspiration was for the article but it’s very good.
@BostonRed , @Dave Marino-Nachison @bshredder Does anybody know what he's doing now? Might be a good topic for an article
I actually had a piece I was planning to write about YNT players that were widely discussed but now out of the game. For whatever reason, it got abandoned. Junior was on my list to reach out but I never followed through. Before I gave up on the piece, I spoke to a few former players. Some had cool stories (Will Packwood and Zack Pfeffer worked together at Goldman Sachs and are doing well. Omar Salgado is in law school at Boston College, Danny Cuevas works as a roofer). Some, however, didn't want to speak to me for a "where are they now?" piece. I don't blame them. There were all sorts of weird rumors floating around about Junior Flores that I couldn't report on because I couldn't prove. But it circled around his agent leveraging his other client (Subotic) to get Flores a deal at BVB. I remember a lot of people in the game I spoke to at the time really never rated Flores that highly and never believed he ever had much of a shot making the transition from youth to adults.
Hope you can resume this article on Flores, and reach out to him on what he’s doing nowadays. Why he gave up on football and if he has plans to do anything football-related (i.e. coaching etc)
sorry Brian I’m late to responding here but wow - that sounds like a great article and something a lot of people would like. Also it’s pretty clear I overrated Junior Flores all those years lol
