Juninho's bomb only got 2nd place for goal of the year (http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/att-goal-year-juninho-2), behind a rocket by Marco Pappa. Juninho's was a better goal, but Pappa's highlight had a great camera angle from directly behind him that showed the ball swerve, and probably put him over the top.

Nice job Juninho! Next year we'll make sure to get out the vote!

Aside from Montero's FK (the only runner-up on a FK) and Shea Salinas' chip, Marquez, Juninho and Pappa all got third, second and first respectively based on swerving goals; distance alone should have been impressive enough for Juninho to win, but alas you're right about the camera angles being better for Pappa - a shame.

Just do better next season Juninho! Why not begin running towards the center circle right at kickoff to try and surprise the keeper? :D

I think that's a very good result for Juninho's goal - congrats to him! This must have not been entirely a fan vote - where were the ballot-stuffers from the great Pacific northwest?

They had three possible goals up, so they must have split their votes! Too bad . . . :D

At least Juninho's club finished better than Pappa's in the regular season.
