I think tonight is going to be a Michael Bloomberg dogpile. For one thing, I don't think Bloomberg has the policy chops to compete against the likes of Elizabeth Warren. For another, I don't think there is any support whatsoever within the Democratic Party rank and file for Candidate Bloomberg. Thirdly, because of those two points, every candidate is going to want to be the one who delivers the candidacy-ending coup de grace on Bloomberg tonight. So far, the debates have been mostly tiresome for me, since they're basically just a 12-month quarterback controversy. But tonight is going to be as close to a 1793-esque Guillotining Of The Rich Guy as we're ever likely to get. Off with his head.
By the way, if I'm right that tonight is going to be all about beheading the Bloomberg candidacy, you know who the big winner is? Joe Biden, who would have been the chum in the shark tank otherwise.
Yes, tonight's debate will be a memory to cherish all through trump's second term. Y'all be sure to record it.
Getting rid of Bloomberg is a step towards making sure that doesn't happen. Having Bloomberg take Sanders down with him will greatly improve the odds of avoiding that outcome.
Did NBC skip introductions or I missed it? Hoping to avoid Bloomberg getting booed? How can Warren say all that and then claim she will support him in the end, so weak.
Brendan Shananan, Joe Kocur, and Bob Probert would be proud. I have covered many great hockey fights. This is better.#DemDebate— Charles P. Pierce (@CharlesPPierce) February 20, 2020
I haven't watched much of the previous debates, but this one is pretty great, at least with a few beers. I'm also in Reno this week (my wife works here and comes back to the Bay Area on weekends, but since our son's school is closed this week, we came up here) and Jon Ralston just started talking about climate change and how it's affecting Nevada. We tried to go skiing last weekend and it was challenging with, shall we say, icy conditions, and it's been sunny every day this week, and there's no snow in the forecast.
