"With Canada's strike force decimated by injuries, coach Holger Osieck was hoping a pair of uncapped players would step up in advance of Sunday's high-profile exhibition soccer game against Germany."

This will be a very difficult game for Canada. I don't really expect much in the way of scoring goals. Pat Onstad needs to have a big game....

    Canada unlikely to test Germany

The 2002 World Cup runners-up Germany will prepare for their most important game of the year by playing a Canadian side ranked 77th in the world and missing several first-choice players.

The Germans play Scotland on June 7 in their next Group Five Euro 2004 qualifier and coach Rudi Voeller described Saturday's friendly in Wolfsburg against the low-key visitors as good preparation for that Glasgow match.

The line-up they suggest is highly doubtful - Nash in defense (?) with Jordan & Budalic starting just isn't going to happen.

    An easy trivia question...

What player that got called up for the Germany game this weekend also played against Germany in 1994?

    There can be only one...........

Nick Dasovic. Only other player called who has been involved with the National team program that long is Pat Onstad, but Forrest played the whole match in 1994 (& I think Dolan was the back-up).

Yeah, that is why it was such an easy trivia question. :)

Veteran Dasovic puts on soccer boots for Canada one more time

    Speaking of Dasovic (57 caps)....

"That experience is why coach Holger Osieck summoned Dasovic for the Germany game. Eight players on the 18-man squad have less than nine caps - with seven having less than five appearances."

Almost no chance at all. It just wouldn't make sense to put Nash on defence because that is one area where Canada doesn't need any help. I would be very surprised in Jordan and Budalic started up front...

Three second-half goals give host Germany a 4:1 victory over Canada in Wolfsburg

Three second-half goals gave the host Germany a 4:1 victory over Canada in an international firendly at the Wolfsburg Arena Stadium in Wolfsburg this evening.
The Canadians held the Germans scoreless for a good portion of the first half despite the host creating several good chances to get on the board.

In the 20th minute of the first half, it was Canada that broke the scoreless tie, when midfielder Martin Nash placed a ball to forward Kevin McKenna, who headed it past the German goalkeeper Frank Rost for the 1:0 score.

The result wasn't unexpected. Canada had a strong first half, but they couldn't keep up with the Germans in the second half. Germany had a much deeper bench and it showed. The Canadian players got tired and the defence looked a little suspect on the last few goals.... they left Onstad out to dry.

    God, the Germans are c*nts.

You could just feel the contempt surging from the players and the entire goddam stadium. The crowd didn't even get up to celebrate the goals.

I disagree. I'd feel bad for celebrating simple-as-hell tap-ins against a team ranked 78th (or whatever) in the world...
