I just watched a tape of the Revs 4-1 victory on July 4th over the Crew. How many things changed!!! -- Brian Dunseth kicked TnT in the leg early in the game, earning a yellow card, a precursor to his whack on TnT's knee in the playoffs. -- Ian Fuller had two assists, and Doug Chapman thought he and TnT were going to make a productive duo. -- Wolde Harris had just asked to be traded, and Adrian said Wolde had an "uphill climb" to get back into the starting lineup. -- Daniel Hernandez didn't start because he had disappeared from the team after the previous game, and did not show up in Foxboro until Tuesday, putting him firmly in the doghouse. -- The Revs defense cut down on its usual number of errors, but Kante had not arrived yet. Pierce and Llamosa played in the middle, with Downing subbing for Pierce late in the game. -- McBride scored in the 83rd minute, spoiling Aden Brown's chance for his first MLS shutout!! -- Cullen scored a goal and played effectively at defensive midfielder, leading Doug to say that maybe this was Cullen's best position. -- Rooney started in midfield and did nothing. -- The Revs were in last place, but not that far behind the division leading Crew.
I was looking for some info on a game in 2001 and I came upon our trip to Tampa late that year. Anyone remember it? Brutal, ugly game. 0-0 draw. Who was Tampa's goalie? None other than Adin Brown. Looking at the statistical archives on mlsnet.com, Adin had 2 shutouts with Tampa last year, and 1 with the Rapids. He also had 2 with the Rapids the year before.
I checke dthe tape. According to Doug (in about the 80th minute), "this would be the first clean sheet of his MLS career - over 40 games." Adrian seemed skeptical, replying, "well it would be his first in a Rev uniform, anyway."
