I just thought of this, maybe I'm the only one that didnt think of it at first, but....

What do the Burn, Crew and Wizards all have in common?

Thats right, Mr. Hunt is correct. So he's got all three of his teams plus a Mexican team to pull in the Hispanics for a (you guessed it) "soccer celebration".

I still remember a couple of years ago on "Hispanic Heritage Night" when I saw one of the weirdest, yet kinda cool, things ever. This Mexican guy had a tarp in the bed of his truck and filled it with water. He had about 10 kids in the back and came to the soccer game. I was speechless...

Speaking of Hunt owning Dallas, Columbus and KC. Columbus has a stadium, Dallas is getting on in 2005, wheres that leave KC???? Should we start some rumors? ;)

I can tell you're from the city if you've never seen a "white-trash swimming pool." :)

    Not true... it's right here:
    https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=54365

And to be fair... the 2 threads you linked are both originally about what to do while visiting Kansas City. Not exactly obvious places to look for double header info.

    the upcoming double header...

For a cheap place to stay try the Interstate Inn in Blue Springs (East of stadium on left) or an deal you might be able to find on the web. Almost any hotel with any occupancy will let their room go for whatever lowball price you offer on priceline.com, etc.

    Cool things to do:
Come to the tailgate in Lot B for pregame festivities. If there is one, it will be posted on this forum. $5 food and $5 drink or BYOB, depending. You can meet the rude bossy folks who posted above and hit them in the mouth :).

    Any number of BBQ places
    Westpost bar area post-game

    Daytime:
    Plaza shoppoing area
    Nelson Museum
Oceans of Fun during the day, opens at 10a
    Casinos
    Golf
    Area pools

No matter what you do, there isn't much around the stadium except the 40 HWY Gates BBQ (if you only do one, go there)

    Re: the upcoming double header...

Are you crazy? Gates is so mediocre; like Bryant's, it's decent barbecue saved by a great sauce and tradition (except Bryant's is better). If you go for barbecue near the stadium, go to LC's.

    the upcoming double header...

    Probably a matter of taste...
Can't stand the Bryant's sauce, meat is fatty, etc. I would agree about LC's - just try to explian how to find it to a visitor. I'm not crazy about Gates' regular either, I do love their Hot sauce.

    the upcoming double header...

In Kansas City there are three things you don't talk about; religion, politics, and bbq.

    Personally, I like Bryant's the best. :)

Not that I live there anymore, but....

If you're willing to part with a little money, I'd suggest staying on the KC Plaza, you'll have plenty of bars, eateries and shops within a short walk, and Westport is only a short cab ride away.

Or, since I know you like gambling, you can stay up north along the Missouri River where the casinos are located. Ameristar Casino is probably the best by far.

This probably needs to end up in the pre-game thread, but since there is talk of the double-header here I was wondering if a lot of people are planning to go to both games. If so, are we going to change the start time for the tailgate?

That's one good idea. Another good idea would be for everyone to bring a yellow and black shirt to wear in support of the visiting Crew against the green-clad Santos' players. I personally will have one of my old MU jerseys and an MU flag.

Ok, two threads and the game a few days away. I merged the threads and made this the Official thread.

Columbus vs. Santos: I could care less. I'm going to watch (and bake, who remembers Saturday afternoon games back in the day??? :( ) and support HSG and MLS.

KC vs. Dallas: Wow, talk about a game we need to win. Kreis always seems to score in KC. Wolff is gone until late in the season, so we're left with Brown and Igor. I think the Wizards need to get away from the 4-5-1 and back to the 3-5-2 or even 4-4-2. We aren't as dangerous with just one striker whether its Wolff or Igor. Guti played last game and looked fit. Talley should be back any time shouldnt he? Gomez didnt go to Colorado and didnt play in the game, how is he? Preki got back on and leads the league again in points.
Dallas has gone to playing like the Wizards of 2000. 11 guys behind the ball and hope to either win 1-0 or draw 0-0. Kreis even admitted they went to C-bus playing for the 0-0 draw and they got it.
KC will, or should, get their chances we just have to put them away.

    Lineup:
    --------Meola---------
    -Garcia-Conrad---Guti-
    ---Zavagnin----------
    ----------Armstrong--
    Klein--------------Quill
    ---------Preki---------
    ------Simu-Brown-----

Unless Gomez can go, then he replaces Armstrong. Get Zotinca off the field at all costs, he needs a breather after the CO game.

I thought Diego looked a bit off last game...which is hard for me to say since he is one of my favorite players. It could be that I just expect more from him - or it could have been the amount of beer I was ingesting.

well, when I ordered the wendys four pack about a week ago, there were virtually no good seats left on the home side...I am going out on the limb with a guesstimate of 23,000

Another good reason to be at the first game ON TIME. We run the risk of losing our section to a bunch of Mexicans if we dont.

Kevin-could you send an email or talk with Curt about making sure we have our section reserved for us? I know its "general admission", but try telling that to the 20 or so fans we've forced to move in the past year.

This brings up the interesting conundrum. We wanted The Cauldron to be general admission so that anyone could join us. We also wanted the cheapest seat in the house so that no one would be priced out of our section, while trying to maintain a semi-decent sightline.

Now we want to temporarily put a reserve on the section? It's a bit of a double standard.

What I've noticed is that the Arrowhead staff have been verbally notifying people that enter 114 that it is a standing section. So I'll send an e-mail to Curt encouraging him to spread the word amongst the staff to tell people that this is the Wizards fans cheering section. If you don't plan on standing and cheering for the Wizards then seek seats elsewhere. I hope that works.

I think its more a matter of Mexican fans there to cheer against the Wizards and Wizards fans. I could care less if some people there for the Wizards games that will root for the Wizards are in the section, but if you remember the last game against a Mexican team it was packed and largely anti-Wizards.

I do remember that the last time we played Santos some of their fans came over from the endzone seats and had their friends take pictures of them messing with our banners and standing by our section. It was the closest I've come to getting into a fight at a game. Regardless, I've decided to head off the problem and get into the stadium early. As for the tailgate, I'll bring my own food if I have to.

I hope the guys at the top of the section dont start not allowing some people to go down there, because I ALWAYS have problems with them. Maybe its my age but they never want to let me and my friends sit in the cauldron and it pisses me off.

And that being said...I hope the Crew win!
