These are two seperate topics I want to ask about?

I have gotten pretty good at juggling and now I am moving on to ball tricks. I can balance it on my foot right after getting it off the ground. Now heres where it gets though. Anybody have opinions on doing it right in the middle of juggling? How about the stepover moves that you see on NikeFootball.com, where you bring your foot over the ball and then loop it back under and keep the juggling going. Also how about combing the two? All of this is at nikefootball.com on the showdown it is in almost every video and i have been working on this for years.

Any suggestions on how to correct my shot?

Ever since I learned how to put swerve on the ball, I have had trouble just shooting the straight through the air. I can do a lot with the swerving but like from 25 yards I can't just hit a straight rocket in the top corner. It always seems to have some kind of swerve on it. I have tried practicing hit it straight on but it hasn't seemed to work. Does anyone have any suggestions on either one of these? I would appreciate it immemsely.

Try to hit it like a knuckle-ball. Don't follow through quite as much as you normally would. Keep your hips straight and your knee pointed down. Concentrate on getting over the ball. Make sure your plant foot is not too far from the side of the ball when you hit it. Good luck.

For a while, I had the same problem. I can't explain well really how I corrected it, but I've noticed when I hit it straight with my right foot, I follow through a little to the left. I can't explain it. Sorry.

I can put major swerve on the ball also....but sometimes when I want to just hit the ball straight I put curl on it. I fix this problem by not following through all the way and if you do go all the way through to come from the side! Good Luck!

I have a ball trick that looks cool but is very easy! That is the good part about it! When juggling and the ball is coming down put your left leg over the ball and let the ball hit the ground and when the ball is on its way back up from the bounce, hit the ball with your right heel and continue to juggle. This is very easy once you practice!

You could come at it and bend your plant knee alot so you can hit the ball with your free leg bent and try to put a back-spin or top-spin on the ball, instead of a spin that would "swerve". It would go "straight" at least.

How would that eliminate the problem assuming my foot is still pointed straight down? Maybe I didn't understand the explanation? Do you mean the "goalie" kick which is a high kick with backspin. I'm having trouble with the "Paul Scholes kick" - a powerful straight low shot. The only way I can hit a straight low kick is take the kick with the toe not pointed down but at an anlge, that's the only way I can put my sweet spot to the center of the ball. But this is a problem during a game - I can't make a proper strong kick when the ball straight under me - the ball has to be to the side. When the ball is under me I can only kick it with the outside, but that won't be half as strong.

Well to tell you the truth I have that problem sometimes too, Size 13 boot. I have started to get used to it and the right boots help just keep working through it on that regard.

if the ball is directly under you in a game and you can only hit it when it is out to the side then just make sure you control it out to the side a bit. I am pretty sure that not very many people can hit a powerful shot from directly under them. If you have to keep your foot at an angle to do the low shot it means you are not leaning forward enough. When you have a large foot you have to lean to the side a bit but still have your weight forward when you shoot. It is a very weird feeling when you hit a shot like that, your weight is towards the ball but your body is leaned off to the side away from the ball. I can't even explain it at all now that i think of it.

Here is the thing, practise, on an open net or against a wall. Take a run up, the momentum of your run will kind ofmake you fall over the ball when you plant your foot next to it. That is what can really make your shot hard. Let that momentum take you forward(so your body is leaning forward) and then snap your knee as fast as possible (crucial for power). As you snap you lean off to the side so that your foot can hit the ball in the proper manner, try to hit with the foot pointed vertically straight down and so that the hard part at the top of your foot hits just at the center of the ball (maybe try hitting a bit above center, I sometimes do this if I am shooting badly. Then the ball should go extremely quickly, and it should be low.

Gradually shorten your run up until you take only one step into a powerful shot.

The thing that helps is when you run you see how you have to be over the ball. Try to accelerate through the ball. When I hit a shot like this I just think of the acceleration at the start of a sprint(head down, stay low, keep weight forward, move feet quickly). Automatically you should fall into position, if you still shoot it high make sure your head is down(VERY IMPORTANT). If you are still shooting high make sure your knee is over top of the ball when you hit it.

The post is extremely long and confusing so if you have any questions just ask me.

    What about the ball tricks?

Ball tricks just take a little bit of practice. They are all pretty easy. I am working on getting my leg around the ball twice, i don't even know if that is possible. (of course i didn't always find them easy thinking back to last summer.)

For stalling the ball, once you can do it by just rolling the ball up onto your foot all you need is practise. Lean forward, relax, keep your balance. The one important thing you must learn is that you move your foot up to meet the ball and then bring it down killing speed gradually until it is at a dead stop stalled on your foot.

Go up to meet it, don't forget. It is the same in the middle of juggling as it is any other time.

For around the world juggle (going around the ball between kicks):
-Start from a stall at first because it is much easier
    -lean over the ball
-Throw up and at the same time go to the side that is the key to the trick. Just as the ball leaves your foot you must move directly sideways your foot will already be going up so you will be over the ball extremely quickly if you do it right.
-once your foot is over the ball and the ball is still reasonably high you have got it. Quickly get under that ball and stall
-the move is all in the knee, it seems like a big revolution to do with your foot, but if you think about what you are doing with your knee it is only a small movement.

    Other tricks on nikesoccer.com:

    Neck Stall:

After you learn how to stall on your foot this one becomes easy. Just throw it up, so it will peak just above your head. Then, bend your neck down and put your arms out flexing your shoulders to make the cup for the ball to sit in. Just as the ball hits you break your knees. This is a very easy trick that looks a lot harder than it is.

    Chest Stall:

This move is done exactly like neck stall except leaning back. Throw the ball from your foot to the front of your neck or just below. Lean back and then use your knees to take all the momentum out of the ball, causing it to stall. Remember, these stalls are all in the knees.

    Rainbow kick flick up:

Use one foot to roll it up the back of the other leg then lean forward and pull the leg that the ball is on to your butt fast. Leaning forward and rolling it high enough up your leg is the trick to this one.

    Catch between your knees:
It is simple just throw it up and time it right pinching your legs together at the right time. My way of doing this trick is to throw it up as if i was gonna go all the way around the ball and catch it on my foot. Instead I go halfway around and grab it between my knees. IF you want to do this all you have to do is swing your leg back when you set it. Then move your leg around from the inside of the ball to the outside and grab it.
I can do a few other moves but can't think of them right now so ask if you need help.

The ones that I need help with are the head stall and shoulder stall, and the pendulum move that Steve Elias does.

My sister has a size 12 foot and she kicks perfect curve balls, she can score a goal from a corner kick. If you can't kick straight that well, try corner kicks.

Do these tricks that hambone is talking about really useful in a game situation or is it more for show? Also do these tricks help you become a better player and what are some drills to do on your own away from practice to help touch, passing and shooting accuracy, or anything else useful that a good well rounded soccer player would need to have?

Yes, tricks do help your game. Even if you never use them. Practicing them with make you more skillful all around, you trapping and touch will improve. Only people who can't do any tricks will try to convince you of the opposite.

Oh they are definetly for show but the control you gain from them is important.

They also make juggling a tad more entertaining along with getting some ohhs and ahhs out of your friends.

The moves that i was talking about are COMPLETELY useless in games and COMPLETELY useless to learn. They teach you nothing, trust me, I can do them all. They do however look cool and impress people. The one trick that is useful is stalling the ball on your foot, that is the only one that really teaches control. I guess going around kind of makes your feet quicker but i don't really think it makes a difference. They are just tricks and they are useless but look cool. Maybe if you were on a break away you could rainbow kick it over the goalie then catch it on your neck and run right into the net lol, but unless that situation arises and you are the most pro, super confident, super cocky player ever you will not use these tricks.

If you really want to learn good control go to a wall and choose two targets on it(little paint chips or whatever put some tape on it).

Then just juggle but make sure that you hit the ball at one of the targets every 3 touches. As you get better take it down to 2 touches and then 1 touch. Once you can alternate targets at 1 touch you will have EXTREMELY good control. That is, if you are far enough away from the wall.

Only problem with this is there is not normally a wall on the field and I like to practice in my cleats cause moves like these are normally a bit different (harder I think) with cleats on than shoes.

The other way is just series juggle always choosing what part of the body the ball will hit before hand; but that is not as good as juggling with the wall.
Also, you can 3 touch juggle with a partner, good team building and good control drill. Get farther and farther apart to make it harder.
