Good to know if James does not get called up at least JuanFer is starting to play well again.

really hope if James doesnt come then Arias moves to that Role. Quintero/Carrascal 5-10 minutes in a 90 minute game type players shouldn't and can't be called.

So you would want Arias playing the James role? I would not mind seeing that with maybe Yaser filling in at the Arias role.

That said, I think it is more likely down the road and not in the short term. I expect Carrascal and JuanFer to be the options in September. But it may be a moot point cause James will probably still be called.

I think that's part of the reason tbf. Didn't think I'd see Gustavo Costas and JFQ on the same team

I'd rather start Quintero personally. I know it won't happen

Yeah, Quintero gives you a great game here and there, but he seems unable to carry a team for very long. I'd take James and his ability to move the team strings every match, but I'm happy we have JuanFer as an option for 30 minutes.

But James is incapable of leading his club for 45 minutes. He hasn't even played 5 full games this season

As long as he plays well for the NT, who cares?

It seems like this is the mentality of the majority of the people around here. Looking at the now and the short term. And he has played well.

BUT we have to also be aware of the long term. Will James be ready come 2025 and 2026?
What is our contingency plan if/when he get's injured again or is not mental all there?

I hope Lorenzo has a plan but as of right now it seems like he does not.
Last match James did not start he tried some weird formation with Sini against Peru which was underwhelming.

The task at hand is to qualify to the World Cup, and it looks like the current squad is up to the task. After we qualify, Lorenzo will have almost a full year to assess and try new variants if needed. I'm not saying that we should not be a little concerned, but a lot of things are going to happen from here until June 2026, and a good coach can adapt and he will have time to work on variants.

Anyone remembers when Falcao got injured like 6 months ahead of WC14 and some people thought that we will suck without him? And of course, we can also look at the pre-WC18 with James oft-injured and out of form, and with Sanchez committing blunders left and right...
