Gotta keep getting Juan in the games with our A team. His work rate is excellent, he's got skillz and a great understanding of the game. He just needs to build chemistry with Dempsey, Donovan and the rest of the guys up front and the sky is the limit for him. I have seen a few people saying that his goal against the Argies was just a "garbage goal" after Andujar made a meal of it. But there is something to be said for being at the right place at the right time to clean mistakes up like that. That is something that can't be taught. Playing him with the likes of Dempsey, Donovan, Holden (when he comes back), and Bradley I think makes the MNT a more dangerous offensive side... I am actually very excited about 4-5 youngsters on the team. But probably most excited about Agudelo. He seems like a good kid, with a great attitude (that work rate thingy) and a lot of natural talent to go along with it.
So when are we going to finally get the lengthy human interest piece on Agudelo? I'm curious to hear more about his first 8 years in Colombia and just how much of a role they played in his development as a player, etc.
my view let the kid play and develop... hype hype hype..ny can specialize that when a kid shows early promise harkes man crush gets especially annoying... he can't do the u-20, as usa did NOT qualify
"I always mind her and I thank God for my family, because they keep me grounded. At my house, I'm not a bigshot pro player, but an 18 year old who has to wash the dishes, wash my clothes and in the end, grow up to become a better person.” Oh no, the insidious "good person" test appears again. Is this why Agudelo is favored over Adu, by Bob Bradley? Joking aside, thanks for the link.
America's next soccer star is on the bench tonight, and his replacement scored 2 goals in the first 15 minutes. Doubling Agudelo's career club total. Awesome.
I actually like this. The coach sits Agudelo and his replacement produces. The standard has been set. You have to compete for your spot every week, and when you win it, you have to produce. The most encouraging thing was, when Agudelo came on in the 90th minute, he ran his ass off for the 4 minutes he was on the field. No sulking.
That's a good way to look at it. But you have to wonder if he was doing the opposite of all this in order to lose the starting spot for this week.
If that's the case, Backe isn't saying so. But if it is, Backe is applying consequences to the behavior, which should curb it.
That he did not start and that Rodgers did well causes me no concern for Agudelo whatsoever. If anything, I think it is a good thing, as Bigrose said.
It's a good thing imho, it will curb any potential sense of entitlement and force him to earn his spot, in the little I've seen of him, he should be able to regain his spot if his attitutde is as good as advertised...
Great goal. Even better, he hustled back inside the 18 to play defense about 30 seconds after he scored.
