finally, ESPN must have read threads, JP and Tommy Smith for the Nats games against NZ, its a shame the confederation cup no ESPN but at least the classic '02 duo got back to the booth, any opinions?
I always like to hear JP in the booth, but I missed hearing Shep in the booth with him. When I saw it was Tommy Smyth in the booth I was expecting him to be annoying, but was pleasantly suprised. He didn't talk too much through out the game.
I used to hate Tommy because I felt he got where he was purely on the strength of his brogue, but the last three or four games I've heard him call he's been pretty good. I still don't necessarily agree with his analysis, but at least he's not taking half the game talking about how great Phil Babb used to be. I always felt the attitude of USSF brass was "Tommy's in the booth because Joe Average would stop the clicker to listen to the Lucky Charms guy talk - and screw the hard-core US soccer fans if they don't like it." Now, though, he's giving enough critical analysis and insight to make him an enjoyable listen. He's still no Seamus, but he's a damn sight better than Ty.
