Rossi just scored a PK to make it 2-1 to Villareal. It was awarded after a Rossi FK from just outside the box was hit at a jumping wall, terrible PK to award, shouldn't have been a PK TBH.

Hopefully Jozy gets some time in the 2nd half.

    Rossi, Jozy: Villareal v Mallorca 12/18 (R)

You already know the plot of this one...

Rossi starts. Jozy on the bench.

2-1 in the 41st minute and Rossi has scored (on a penalty)

Game is on GolTV for those of you looking for something to watch instead of Demps and EJ.

3-1 now off a Nilmar beauty. It's no wonder Jozy's having a hard time finding minutes.

Jozy won a FK on the sideline. Comes to nothing.

Jozy's positioning is still not great but I think he's making slightly better runs. He's still too static in offense.

Ended 3-1, Villarreal STILL undefeated at home under Garrido.

Nice! 2 games in a row for Jozy. I wonder if the month off was to send a message to Jozy and maybe he responded to it well in training? He tried to make some runs behind the defense but his teammates didn't pass it to him.

Yeah, the simple fact right now is that Nilmar and Rossi are better players than Jozy. But he's making the 18 consistently, and getting SOME action as a sub, and in Cups.

It's not a bad place to learn how to play forward, he'll certainly learn more there than at Hull. And the Big Boys may soon come knocking for Rossi and/or Nilmar, so a spot may open up.

Nilmar and Rossi are just off the charts right now. They're SO good. Ruben has also bagged some goals in his appearances as well. I think its a good challenge for a young player like Jozy to fight for playing time behind players who are playing at such a high level.

Rossi does the hesitation on his run up to the penalty kick and the other team gets upset every single time. The referee called him out on it the other day in Europa League, then Rossi did almost the same exact thing on the second attempt.

Nilmar's goal was sublime. Their movement and passing that put him into space was textbook Villareal attacking. His finish was the cherry on top.

I agree. He made 4 or 5 runs but they never tried to release him with a through ball. Too bad.

Good to see him out there though, if only for 10 or so minutes.

Acutally it was stated by local media / Ref report the reason Rossi had to retake PK vs. Club Brugge was due to encroachment by Villarreal player (Cani), not due to feint on the run, that's still legal per Fifa and hence the 2nd PK stood.

    ---
"Feinting in the run-up to take a penalty kick to confuse opponents is permitted," said Fifa's Jerome Valcke.

"However, feinting to kick the ball once the player has completed his run-up is now considered an infringement."

Not very accurately but that's what I saw. Sometimes he made good runs but other times he was standing around surrounded by 3 defenders.

Jozy does a nice job of "posting up" and drawing fouls. But that's pretty much the beginning and end of what he contributes. His touch is meh, and in this particular match, his off-the-ball movement was just TERRIBLE. I wonder how much time Villareal's staff spends "teaching" such things.

It can't be easy for him with very limited playing time, but i get the feeling that they see something in him. He continues to make the first 18, he's happy where he is, and at 21 is still very young for a forward. IMO I would not be surprised to see him earn more PT and eventually become a starter, if Rossi or Nilmar are sold.

"for a forward"? In my view, forwards mature earlier than any other position. Granted, forwards of Jozy's type, big guys who like to use their size, generally don't, like Drogba or McBride. But still, there's Andy Carroll.
