First, congratualtions to Ghana - they played well and deserved to win.

But the big picture for US Soccer is that we need to develope talented forwards (see goal scorers) ... and not video game playing, diving cheats.

Altidore played 4 games, started 4 games, scored NO GOALS. Flopped, dropped and generally useless ...

Ending his dismal season with Hull City (1 goal) with a 3 game suspension, is why he is not worth the money. There was a reason the spanish clubs did not want him

Lots of hype - little return. Altidore will go the way of Freddy Adu and Eddie Johnson ... disappear into oblivion.

    Enjoy your video game.

Altidore has the touch of a donkey. If this is our future, I guess we will be losing to 3rd world countries indefinitely.

    exactly

in fact, we NEED adu to try out playing in the midfield with Bradley
as an offensive central midfielder, something we don't even have on the field

all he needs to do is receive passes and touch the ball into the goal.

playing him as a 2nd striker and possession player
was a poor choice by bob bradley. that's not altidore's fault

The greater travesty is that the U.S. doesn't really have that many options besides a 20 year old with one EPL goal to his name. He still has time on his side, but I agree that his $10 million transfer fee honeymoon is officially over. Jozy has some serious work ahead of him.

With US Fans like TheHun , Altidore should have chosen baseball or NFL Football- sports that USA Actually respects.

actually ghana played worse than the italians and slovakians combined with blatant time wasting and diving, any team that does that doesn't deserve to win especially since they played even more poorly than the US in the 2nd half. Also wait altidore might get better, he is only 20 and no where near his prime.

Thought he did well this tournament. Everyone harps on the no goals, probably should've scored two in four games but he finally learned to play on his own and the US looked dangerous when he was out there. Didn't really have much service today or last game but he has improved.

You must have a rusty brain - because the 4 games I saw altidore, he was crap. His flopping and fainting was dancing with the fairies.

His constant screaming and lack of position, ball control and most of all - scoring - puts him in the useless catagory.

If you cannot see that, you have a lot to learn.

Altidore is the USA's best forward, no doubt. Problem is he needs to be more controlled, at the moment he isn't really much of a goal threat even though he can still perform a useful function on the pitch.

Altidore was a handful for defenders this WC. He needs some polishing for sure, but his size and the way he uses his body can be a serious mismatch for defenders.

The forward opposite of Jozy was the real problem during this World Cup. Findley did nothing, and Buddle/Gomez didn't get enough time to prove anything either way.

When Davies gets back to full fitness we will a very good tandem up front.

I would buy him the baseball bat. If you put on a US National Team jersey, then play with pride, not disgrace.

I don't want Americans to be known as whining, cheating divers ...

Saying he is 20 is a poor excuse. You develope your persona as a player early on. While you can improve techncal aspects, you cannot change your personality.

    Messi is only 20 .... ?

I will agree the Altidore sucked and really has done nothing to justify his spot or hype besides being young and big but this wasn't his last cup. I see no reason why he can't get better if he can get some playing time but even if he continues to do nothing he will be our starting striker in Brazil and England because we don't have the depth to come up and displace him.

Jozy has that position locked for himself until we find a better young forward besides Charlie Davies.
Also, he has good pace and troubles defenders at times

we missed charlie davies. there are some strikers that just have that knack to bang home a goal. Davies would have polished off Findley's chance.

we have to be honest and say that we did not have a great squad. We got about as far as our talent let us. We were too weak at striker and too many holes in the midfield and defense.

Altidore was the best player on the field against Algeria and was extremely unlucky not to win the game against England. He's done a great job of using his size and strength to draw fouls and get players booked.

And he's only 20. Chill out, guys - the future is bright.

In all my life of watching soccer, I have only ever heard 'handful' describe technically poor players who are incredibly physical. In that respect it is most apt here.

It appears that they struggle to defend against him, in so far as they have to actually sprint and fight to get the ball off him, but actually they tend to win the ball everytime.

Nevertheless, these 'handful' players still seem to be highly rated all around the world.

Torres if the team plays the correct tactics when he is out there could be that person! I like his chances better than Adu.

The guy is physically strong enough to hold up the ball for his team, and is a decent passer standing still.

Useless in the air and is, in a way a relative of Roberto Duran on the move.

    Feet of stone...............

Acceptance is part of the healing process guys. Adu and Altidore are not nor have they ever been our stars. Let's keep searching.

So what does the OP think about our "Captain" Bocanegra pulling up on the second Ghana goal before the play was over? He flat out quit on the play. Not saying he could have made a difference but he flat out gave up on the goal.

Of course keep searching, the search for the best player never ends. That said, nobody at the moment usurps Altidore-Davies.
