According to Ives, Altidore was nearly transfered to Reading:

Now, according to the article, the deal might have died because of Reading's inability to sell one of their players. Would the Red Bulls have let Altidore leave now? The article also makes it sound like the choice was Altidore's.

Red Bulls nearly lost Altidore to Reading

I love developing young players for us and then losing them before we reape the benefits and getting minimal stuff back for them...

He might be going to Salzburg IF he does not go somewhere else before.

As I mentioned: It was HIS wish to have that option NOT the wish of Salzburg.

Considering his play last night, this kid has his days numbered in MLS. Maybe an August transfer?

Reading is not a very good club, but he will eventually have the opportunity to play against big English teams. I think it would be better for him to be in Reading instead Salzburg (despite reading is always in the bottom of the league when it is in first division)

    Jozy's a Gooner.

He's set to cash in big time as the face of NY soccer if he stays and matures here a bit longer - a far better situation than riding the pine in the relegation zone. He won't leave for another season, at least (a January loan might not be a bad idea in 09).

I think that he's growing by leaps and bounds. This season is probably going to be his break out year. Hopefully he sticks around longer than this season, but being that his skills have just gotten so much better, clubs are going to come knocking. After last nights game, his 10 millon number has stayed firm if not gone up. Can anyone say 15?
