His brother is a pro as well: https://www.courier-journal.com/sto...-signs-joins-older-brother-elijah/7505349002/
Josh and his older brother Elijah (18) are quite the prospects and Lou City thinks very highly of them. Elijah was just loaned to FC Tucson for the USL League 1 season. Josh made between 10-12 appearances last season. As a 16 year old he didn’t look out of place at all in the USLC for a very good Lou City side. He’s played, I think, mostly at RB but will eventually slide over to CB when he gets a little more strength and seasoning under ship belt. I know he’s been on the radar of the USMYNT but don’t think he’s been called in yet. Talented player and he will be the rotation again this season for Lou City. They have a handful of talented teens that I hope will get some PT.
Profile: https://chasingacup.com/joshua-wynder-louisvilles-usmnt-hopeful/ Prior to the start of the regular season, Wynder spent some time training in Portugal. “I think I needed to go through that just to get out of my comfort zone,” he stated. As far as play on the pitch goes, he felt he could compete. “They’re definitely pretty good. I feel like I’m close to the level because I was training with their 19s, I think, and then if I would have stayed longer, they said they would have moved me up to their 20s.”
Europe seems likely: Louisville City is seeking a seven-figure transfer with a solid sell-on percentage for Wynder, and multiple Champions League teams have been in touch with the USL side. That includes bigger teams in the Premier League, Bundesliga and La Liga, however sources said Wynder and Louisville City are focused on Champions League teams where he would be able to play and continue to develop. That likely means their sights are set on Holland, Belgium, Austria or Scandinavia. https://theathletic.com/3418684/202...-latest-on-gabriel-slonina-and-richie-laryea/
Any move abroad will have to wait until May 2023 when Josh turns 18. The kid has his heart set on Europe from what I understand so I don't think he's headed to MLS. I could be wrong, obviously. MLS just doesn't offer contract flexibility like USL-C. Plus, I think Lou City wants to fully profit off that transfer fee and not have a Jonathan Gomez repeat where they only netted 100K. Keep an eye on this kid. His potential is high. He also just recently made his international debut, captaining the US U-19's.
H/T to @adam tash for finding this: No idea on the credibility of this new account, but it's dumping a lot of young MLSer news. Agent MLS @AgenttMLS A big news. They confirmed to me that Josh Wynder is heading to Brighton, a compensatory fee of 1 million will be paid, He will leave when he turns 18. He will be loan to one of the clubs of Brighton's owner. The B&H owner also has the majority stake in 1st tier Belgian squad Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
Looks like he may be headed back to Portugal for a training stint. 1611046655645581321 is not a valid tweet id

Don’t be surprised if a Benfica bid is the first of many in the coming months for Wynder, who will turn 18 in May. He will be off to Europe in the summer and Lou City knows it. I have several connections at Lou City and one told me that a Belgian club and two German clubs are also in the mix. He doesn’t know specifically who those clubs are. He was just relayed the country/league. He was also the one that tipped me off to a Spanish club swooping in for Jonathan Gomez, so I trust him. I should, I’ve known the dude for 25+ years having grown up playing together in Louisville.
That's awesome! What a dope connection to have! Do you know if Wynder has done trials at other clubs, or is does that indicate that Joshua is most seriously considering Benfica? Maybe Wynder will be the first to break the Portuguese curse (not that Keaton Parks / Reggie Cannon have had disappointing careers or anything, it just seems like young Americans have struggled to break through there)
I have no idea if my connection (friend) has any insight into which way Wynder is leaning. Reading between the lines in our general conversations, I suspect Josh (and his camp) are pretty right lipped as this point. Josh, I think (but don’t quote me), had a training stint abroad last winter / spring. I also maybe confusing that “stint” with the U19 YMNT training camp and friendly matches in Spain last Spring that he took part in. My good friend was involved in bringing Josh, his old brother Elijah (a very good prospect himself at Lou City), and several other players over to Lou City’s newly former ECNL youth side in 2019. He’s since moved over to the Racing Louisville girls youth side (Lou City and Racing Louisville share ownership) but he keeps up with all his boys that he coached who are pros or college players. He throws me tidbits every once in a while when we aren’t talking family and sharing stupid memes.
I think you might be referring to his training session at Sporting CP that kicked off this thread in Feb. 2022, but he's been in demand since then and may have had more with some of the clubs in question. Exciting time for the youngster!
Signs an extension with Louisville, but everyone is ready for him to leave: 1621565598437347328 is not a valid tweet id
He’s as good as gone in the summer. I think everyone at Lou City expects and anticipates it. He’ll play as many games as he can between now and them and I suspect as soon as the window opens in June, he’ll be signed. I’ve heard two other clubs are showing strong interest. I don’t know who they are aside from the a tidbit shared that they are “two clubs in the top half of a Top 5 league”. Talk about a bland tidbit.
I don't think I understand the extension. Wynder plans to leave, Louisville plan to sell. What purpose does the extension serve?
Lou City screwed themselves on the Jonathan Gomez to Real Sociedad deal. He left for something measly like $150K or so. It was their fault based on the structure of his contract. They even admitted it was something that wouldn’t happen again. The club wants to be a “selling” club of young players so an extension with new language / terms protects their asset and guarantees Wynder won’t leave on a free or heavily reduced transfer free. I’m sure it will include a “sell-on” clause. They want to max value for him.
He makes more money in the short term and his salary is now anchored a little higher for negotiation of personal terms. Plus he has a longer guarantee if he gets injured before a deal goes through.
