First Gatt goal of the season in his 14th match with Altach. Was a header from short distance. He also has three assists.

Altach is still second to bottom, but the 6-1 thrashing of Hartberg will serve as an encouragement going into the winter break.

Gatt was actually on the bench and didn’t feature in the match. Admira won 1-0 at Altach to switch places at the bottom of the Bundesliga table. Unfortunately, not encouraging if you’re glued to the bench of the last-place team...

    The relevant paragraph is
"Verabschiedet" literally translates as adopted, so it's hard to tell what's going on unless you speak good German, but Transfermarkt has him listed as leaving Altach come July 1st for "unknown". Since he didn't even make the squad since March 23rd, it's safe to assume that he's been let go.

verabschieden means to adopt/pass something as in a law but here it means to see someone off. Those 8 players were said goodbye to

    Not giving up yet:

    https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-...ereven-if-soccer-seems-to-be-giving-up-on-him

He spent the first couple of months assimilating to Austrian soccer. Then, just six months and 21 matches later, Gatt scored in Altach's 4-0 demolition of Admira in late November 2010. In the stands was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, then manager of Molde. Gatt's agent got very excited, but the player was in the dark.

"I had to work out the name. I went into YouTube and typed in Ole, Gunnar and tried to type in Solskjaer, and I couldn't spell that," Gatt said. "Google finished it for me, so I copied and pasted it into YouTube, and the very first video that popped up was 'Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Manchester United all 142 goals.' I was looking at it shell-shocked, so I clicked on it and watched it, and as I watched it, I was like, 'Holy s---, this guy was at my game? And likes me?'"

Nice piece, sad story. Hopefully an yet-to-be-written happy ending for the kid.

Not sure why he wouldn't get a short term contract with a lower division side and put his talent in the window. He's not going to get an MLS contract (seems unlikely) until he can prove that his knee can handle professional football again.

    here
    What's Gatt doing now?

I went to his Wikipedia page to try to find out. I've always thought of Gatt having blazing speed. His page says that at one point he ran a "self-timed" 11.0 100 meters. If that was a new signee to the college football team I support, I'd be thinking "ya, he's kinda fast."

I mean, a guy on the team recently ran a 10.6 100 meters in the conference meet. And, he's among 4 or 5 guys who are considered to maybe be the fasted guy on the team. I mean, he probably is. But, it's not clear cut.

Anyway, I hope things workout for Josh!

Really enjoyed watching his progression from Austria to Molde... seemed like he was going to have a very nice career with those wheels of his.

Another tragic YA career effectively ruined by injury... right up there with Charlie Davies and Stu Holden in my mind.

he really vociferously wants a chance, but it seems like the onus is on him to show he really deserves one? he has been injured for so long that he probably cant realistically expect to still be at mls level?

Different situation, but the Kiesewetter route makes sense for him. Any USL team would sign him at the right price, and that's the best platform for a move upwards in American soccer.
