Gardner got a cup of coffee with the U-20s this summer:

Gardner was playing for the Houston Toros PDL team this summer when Thomas Rongen, coach of the U.S. under-20 team, extended an invite for Gardner to play in the U.S. Soccer Festival.

Playing as a left back against the Midwest select team, Gardner set up the game's lone goal to the Dallas Burn's Eddie Johnson in a 1-0 victory.

Agents, scouts, and Major League Soccer coaches were impressed.

"He is clearly a player that can compete with the U-20 age group and beyond," Rongen said.
