If I trust AI... He's the youngest non-German to hit 150 appearances. He's third youngest of all players (Werner is youngest, then Musiala).
The crazy thing is that Glabach paid just €1.8 million for him, which comes to €12k per league appearance. Absolute chickenfeed in today's money.
Third youngest of current players, maybe? He's top 25 youngest of all time, which is pretty cool. And as far as non-Germans go, he smoked the record. Previous youngest was David Alaba, who was more than half a year older than Scally when he hit 150. Scally, Alaba, Upamecano, Nico Elvedi, and finally our friend and dual-nat Jonathan Davies are the only non-Germans in the top 100.
Coincidentally, Everton's Seamus Coleman has just announced he's leaving at the end of the season (probably to retire) after 17 years at the club and 433 first-team games. They paid League of Ireland side Sligo Rovers (think inferior version of NASL mark 2) all of £60k for him. That's the best comparison I can think of, though I'm sure other people can come up with better
I was skeptical of the 3rd youngest to hit 150 (and it was all time), so I asked two other AI's. They both said the same thing. After pushing back on Grok just now, I don't think it's true - he's too far down the overall list to hit 100 to be 3rd overall to hit 150. Maybe it's of current players Or maybe it's just AI bull$hit.
Scally starts! Reyna is on the bench. Gladbach (13th, but with a chance to move up) hosting Hoffenheim (T-4th, still with a lot riding on today’s results).
I'm a bit confused. I just posted the exact numbers and rankings. Stats are right on transfermarkt in black and white for 150. He's 25th overall, youngest non-German by over half a year. https://www.transfermarkt.us/bundesliga/altereinsaetze/wettbewerb/L1?spiele=150
He is the youngest Moenchengladbacher to reach 150 first games. Eclipsing club legends Vogts and Matthaus. Although, for context, Moenchengladbach were more of a mid-table club with occasional European aspirations back then...
Yes, I don't think that part was ever in question. My bad for trusting AI initially on the other part.
I'm surprised Davies isn't on the list. Maybe I'm misremembering how old he was when he got there to injuries kept him off the list.
He's n the top 100 youngest overall, and the 5th fastest non-German (I mentioned him in my previous post).
Scally's keeping company with some seriously heavy hitters on that page: Uli Hoeness, Olaf Thon, Berti Vogts, Manny Kaltz, Brandt, Sule, etc.
Scally's contract expires in June 2027. Wonder if he'll stay in Germany or move elsewhere. Seems to have a good thing going at his club, maybe he can become the mayor of Gladbach (like Dolo at Hannover).
Guy's got cojones. Real self-confidence in that interview "For myself, I'm the youngest [foreign] player to play 150 games in the Bundesliga, so I definitely bring a lot of experience and a lot of consistency to the team. I think that's helped me mentally, just preparing, because we've been in different kinds of battles, like fighting for Champions League when I first came, and then not really fighting relegation, but kind of in that area the last two seasons. So it's different, I bring that sort of leadership qualities."
Haha, it kind of reads like "when I got here we were pretty good. And throughout my time here we've gotten progressively worse."
