And now I realize the cause of my mistake. Before I had my coffee this morning, I grabbed Borussia Monchengladbach from Scally's actual thread title, above - without the ö. Perhaps correcting that will put some ööömph in Scally's öffense. Wörth a try!
I wonder if playing with Gio will unlock some of his offense. They played together on youth teams and Scally seemingly had more in his bag then than he's ever shown at club or full national team level. When Gio trusts someone he passes to them a lot. For that to be a possibility Gio needs to stay health and earn minutes.
Reyna only going as a player, not a coach. Joe does what the coach wants and Gio should do the same. Be good at what the coach asks of you and that leads to a lot of time on the field.
So the coach tells how many passes to make to who before you get on the field? I am suggesting Reyna trusts Scally and when making a run he might look for him when others don't. I guess unless the coach forbids it.

I've heard friends with benefits who play on different teams is quite good. But my only real friends are here on BS so...
about the 'defense-topic': 1) defense is Scally's main task 2) his counterpart on the left (Ullrich) is more freeflowing/forward pushing than Joe... this 'asynchronity' of the full-backs (and the whole wing) is wanted by the coach 3) a lot of people ignore 2) when criticizing Scally for his 'low-key' offense 4) others turn their nose up on 3) but themselves focus on the moments when Scally actually & already is part of the attack: they f.e. are wishing for more pinpoint passing, less wide spread crossballs ... and a rocket shot once in a while (preferably into the top corner) ;-)
I hate to marginalize people's opinions, but just this one time I'm gonna do it. -- 132 Bundesliga appearances -- #3 *I believe* for most Top 5 league matches under his belt at his age (Pulisic, Musa) -- Didn't cut his teeth in Europe and/or have a pro coach/player Dad; literally homegrown If only he had the preferred attacking profile, we'd probably really like him. Get real, people.
question: is Pochettino part of the "we"? i'm not familiar with the present situation at the USMNT seems the coach is using the same 4-2-3-1 formation as Gladbach is P. desperately looking for an attacking RB and is this why he's not inviting Scally?
Yes, for the most part Poch has used the 4-2-3-1. As for why he hasn't called Scally -- who knows. They replacements have all been worse from a defensive perspective and not any better (or worse) going forward. It's one of the many dumb personnel decisions during Poch's tenure.
Has any journalist asked about Scally and conversely has Scally called the assistants who talk and asked about what he needs to do to get back in the picture?
Scally made the last world cup roster but didn't play one minute in the WC. My mind was blow when Moore got subbing on as an outside back before Scally. And this was, of course, pre-Poch.
from TORFABRIK: Joe Scally: Had a few problems defensively which remained without consequences. This time the American unusually noticeable took part in offense: with a flat cross he initiated the Ullrich-chance in the first half and after the break the opportunity for Hack. Scally himself also tried a shot on the short corner that Nübel defended. In the final phase he visibly became tired. He was nearby at the goal for Stuttgart but did not recognize the danger. Grading: 3.5 winless series is going on and on but overall defense was really good at Stuttgart
