thanks for torturing me ;-) but you're right, they are light years ahead of us this season (still Borussia got a warm applause after the match) and they're gonna trounce others, too today vs. Bayern for the 111th time, we're not ready and to top it all: a h-u-g-e setback! goalie Omlin (who took Sommer's place with surprising ease) is out for months... no equivalent in stock for me Gladbach's season just really starts after the international match break now that most transfer-windows are closed it seems that we'll have Elvedi for another season most likely he isn't getting his old spot back which is bad news for Friedrich but potentially also concerns Scally because Elvedi is usable as a RB as well (certainly not today I guess)... so this evening Scally could cover again for Netz on the left (which most media didn't regard as a good idea last week), or could move back to the right, presumably in both cases backed by a back three.. good luck with that!
Scaly is mostly defending. He got forward once or twice. Galdbach up 1-9 at HT due to a nice corner kick goal.
Scally came off in the 83’ due to injury. Bayern scored the 2-1 winner after he came off. The injury was non-contact on a play where he reached awkwardly to clear the ball. My speculative untrained eye saw a potential hamstring injury, but not sure if a strain or something worse — or another injury altogether.
After 6 failed tries, Bayern Munich finally beat M’Glabach for once, which happens once in a blue moon. Wait!? There was a super blue moon two days ago, right?

I sense the bench for Scally coming up now that injuries aren’t plaguing them as much.. he’s frankly been bad in every game this year.
He wasn't just subbed... he was subbed at halftime when they were down 3:0. He and 3 of his teammates. Coach wasn't too happy and made the half-time quad-sub. It seemed to have worked as they came back for the draw.
From the scoreline, I see that Scally and three teammates (4, count ‘ em, 4) were subbed out at halftime, trailing 3-0. Then came the Majlica (pronounced magical) moment - a red card to Majlica. Quickly (after a missed PK) it was 3-1, then a 5th sub at 62’ - so ‘going bare’ the final 30’ minutes! - 3-2 and 3-3 by 77’, but no further. Pretty extraordinary, 4 subs at HT and the 5th so early, turning 3-0 to 3-3. The only plus from a Scally perspective, beside the rescued point, is that his RCB teammate (Friedrich) was also subbed off at HT. And of course that playing 11 v 10 partially explains the comeback. Still, all-in-all, not a great look.
He’d actually be much better off putting NT thoughts out of his mind altogether. He’s clearly viewed as depth and has bigger fish to fry right now.
"Earned" the dreaded Kicker 6 rating for his half of play: Don’t often see a Note (ranking) of 6 in Kicker (worst possible rating) but 3 Gladbach players received that unwanted mark - Marvin Friedrich, Joe Scallly & Nathan Ngoumou. All 3 were replaced at half time after the first half horror show in Darmstadt. #BMG— Derek Rae (@RaeComm) September 18, 2023
It's been 15 years since they spent a season in the 2.BuLi. This one, they should climb back to mid-table, though.
summertransfer-probability for Elvedi was up to 99% but at the end he went for the 1% and extended his contract … now most are demanding a back three with Wöber-Itakura-Elvedi (which really looks classy for a currently mediocre Gladbach… at least on paper), others -given Scally’s rather bumpy start (to put it politely)- are wanting him to replace Joe the wind for Scally is suddenly blowing harder now: + even if Elvedi is not directly replacing him Scally would compete with Honorat (who is more experienced and more versatile) for the wingback position + the forebearance based on age/experience seems to be dwindling, rookie time is over, several leaders have left Borussia and younger players like him and Netz are expected to make a step forward… in this matter Reitz (despite not being hugely talented) came from behind and already earned a contract extension because he showed p-r-e-s-e-n-c-e (visiblity & action)… and that’s also the keyword for Scally and Netz… just ‚being there‘ is not enough anymore) at the moment it seems Scally’s safe-starter-look from season start got lost rapidly... but fortunately: in the fast paced soccer world things can change quickly in a more favorable direction…maybe the USMNT-trip just wasn’t helpful at all... (even with Gladbach’s goalkeeper coach as fellow traveler, I hope Berhalter is not poaching him completely…)
Scally left the US camp early as his grandfather died. I think he deserves some consideration for that.
definitely! sad trip instead of sports trip especially in soccer I know of some grandfather-grandson realtionships which are pretty close for many years: while the father is always busy the often recently pensioned grandfather is giving countless private training lessons, is bringing his grandson to training, watching all his matches and most important is encouraging and coaching him all day long in spring Jonas Hofmann's fiancée had an unexpected miscarriage... Hofmann who always started didn't start against Wolfsburg but came from the bench I would tend to give players a break in such cases but it seems for some it's helpful to get back into daily routine soon and others just need some time off
