And it's over. The Bad: Gladbach looks dang good without Scally. The Worse: Adams may have to make do in the Europa next season. Unless they lose again. Then, it's the Confederations.
Leipzig is home v. Augsburg and away to Bielefeld. Freiburg is home v. Union and away to Leverkusen. Leipzig is the heavy favorite to finish 4th, despite being a point back.
Not starting today. Hopefully he can beat out Lainer heading into next season. Lainer turns 30 this summer. Not terribly old but not young, so little chance he’s sold for any real money. Looks like Joe is just going to have to displace him the old fashioned way and just develop and prove to be better.
Made a late appearance: 86': Doppelwechsel bei der #FohlenElf:⬅️ Jordan Beyer ⬅ Lasso Plea➡️ Joe Scally➡ Patrick HerrmannGute Besserung, Jordan! 💚#Bundesliga #SGEBMG 1:1— Borussia (@borussia) May 8, 2022 Ended 1-1.
Looks like he gave away the winning goal in this final minutes but the attacker was just offside. Considering how long the stoppage was for the injury that got Scally into the game, rather surprising there was no added time.
Between Scally’s positioning, Bello’s own goal, Pulisic’s constant heavy touches, so many Yanks’ teams relegated, constant injuries etc. I am forced to reassess this golden generation of players. Maybe just silver. LOL
One of the consequences of the concentration of all of the world's wealth into fewer and fewer hands is that nearly all the big names are or eventually become American citizens. So, European soccer is becoming an American-owned thing, too. A collateral of this is that more and more players and coaches from the USA will get chances. Many will cry that these are not deserved. But that is not something about to change in the near future. Basically, European soccer needs American investment to survive. So one way or another, we'll keep getting chances to have players (and coaches) shine there.
Scally played on the right side of a three man backline, something I haven't seen before. Also, Chandler almost scored the winning goal, and the ref inexplicably blew full time after 40 seconds of stoppage, which was mystifying.
Ousting Lainer the old-fashioned way is his long-term task, but his versatility will ensure he gets decent PT next season even if an established player doesn't get a long-term injury.
I watched almost all of his matches in the last 4 months of 2021. His aggressiveness and ability to disrupt defensively (and work rate) made me wonder why no one ever tries him at the 6. He plays like he might be a terror at that spot.
I guess it depends upon which Kellyn Acosta shows up with the ball at his feet. What if you had a better passing, faster Acosta? And if Gregg is the coach it seems unlikely that Scally will make a tournament roster as FB.
He's healthy, and I don't think Jedi or Dest will be in the upcoming friendlies. Yedlin is in season, Cannon has been playing a different position, Moore has been playing little, Vines hasn't grabbed the spot with improved play. The upcoming matches, you have to think he gets a shot. But maybe not. And no guarantee he'll impress enough to move up the depth chart.
Just saw this, but should be a game worth scouting/watching today: Gladback are hosting a friendly v Ukraine at 2:45 PM (eastern). Let's hope Scally plays (well) and files a scouting report.
He played left in a back three in the second half. Captain Lars Stindl was cocommentator during the second half. Stindl said Scally had been asked if he wanted to try it, and Scally didn‘t mind. Stindl was impressed by Scally‘s first season and thinks it’s up to him to make the next step and secure a spot in the starting team.
I expect that the club wants to hang in to him for the future. And he seems happy there. That first season really couldnt have gone much better.
Yes. Was discussing that today with a buddy who happens to have been on the Nats at that time, and with Scott LeTellier.
That match is one of the earliest memories I have of the USMNT on TV (besides the '94 World Cup). I was young at the time and did not understand how the all-star players of our entire country could be playing against and barely beating a "county" select team. Obviously, I had no idea at the time who Derby was.
